Wonderful News! (Vaccination trials successful)

Great news that pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, in conjunction with a German pharmaceutical company, have discovered a vaccine that prevents catching Covid 19 by 90%.

Britain has pre-ordered 40 million doses (which will cover 20 million with 2 doses) which will be allocated first to front line staff and then vulnerable people.

Something to hope for, at last!:lol:

Just seen that on the news, good news indeed

Pfizer hails breakthrough with Covid-19 vaccine ‘90% effective’ against virus

Pfizer says an early analysis of its vaccine data suggests the shots may be 90 per cent effective at preventing Covid-19, indicating the company is on track later this month to file an emergency use application with US regulators.

Today’s announcement doesn’t mean a vaccine is imminent: this interim analysis, from an independent data monitoring board, looked at 94 infections recorded so far in a study that has enrolled nearly 44,000 people in the US and five other countries.

Pfizer Inc. did not provide any more details about those cases, and cautioned the initial protection rate might change by the time the study ends. Even revealing such early data is highly unusual.

No cause for rejoicing just yet … :expressionless:

Astra Zeneca are about to launch theirs

Well it didn’t take long for someone to piss on the parade did it…

Wonderful news SG, it should give everyone a bit of hope for the future.

But positive signs one hopes.

Good news indeed, a cloud has lifted and I have only just allowed myself to think about the many aspects of my life that have been influenced by C19.
My sister telephoned in tears, her son in law works for a company making aircraft parts, he has so far been retained his job while others have not but was expecting to made redundant putting a huge burden on my niece to keep the mortgage going.

I might now be able to get a puppy next year and enjoy a family holiday in June in the beautiful house my son has rented in Wales

There are logistical challenges, as the vaccine has to be kept in ultra-cold storage at below minus 80C.

There are also questions about how long immunity lasts, and about vaccine’s effectiveness for different age groups.

There should be a forum rule about posting good news…it’s just not on!

What a delightful turn of phrase you have …

Concise and accurate though.

Hi

Boris is giving a TV Briefing at 5pm, along with a military representative.

The plan is to use some of the military to distribute any vaccine.

I saw that on the news also. It will still be months before the general public get it, they will give it to key workers first once it’s cleared for use & that can take months as well.

Thank you for a realistic view …

Of course there will be ‘ifs and buts’ yet - it is a brand new discovery! And of course Jo Bloggs in the street won’t be invited for it for a long time yet either.
It is more than anyone dare do to use it widespread until the trials are finished. (Unless you do what the Chinese are reported to be doing, and flogging it to Jo public at £45 a shot)!

However, I prefer to be quietly optimistic, rather condemning it automatically.

Did I condemn it … :017:

It seems, rather, that some FMs are far too quick to condemn ME … :!:

Oh…I am really hurt…I feel a bottom lip quiver coming on…how very very unkind. I ink I might go and have a to weep somewhere in a safe place.

Did mommy teach you that phrase?
