When our Nissan went in for its annual service and MOT it failed on the wiper blades not clearing the front window screen so the Nissan main dealer fitted new ones and it passed. That should have been the end of the matter but no they appear to have fitted the cheapest possible so the screen still smeared when wiped. Sue tried everything and I mean everything to stop the wipe smear but nothing worked, I think it is what they valet with the car with so have to stop them doing that.
Going back to the days when I did car repairs/maintenance something triggered in my brain about double eddged wiper blades. If I remembered properly they cleaned with both forward and return action , so looked it up if they still make them or similar. Bosh do something like so Sue and I toddled off to Halfords with me looking for the Bosh blades seen on the interweb.
Yhe long and short of it is they are now on the Nissan and Sue says the smearing problem has all but gone even with a few blade wipes. So the answer seems to be get decent wiper blades that do wipe in both directions
Clean the glass with neat screen wash and that should remove all smearing.
LD thanks for the tip but
Tried that and didn’t work, tried vinager to- sliced potato including meths can’t get hold of old newspaper when the print did the trick. I did say tried everything and nothing worked until changed wiper blades. Even ordered and waiting for specialist screen glass cleaner from China, yes even going that far into solving the issue. Still have this with the Honda and looks as it that car will need new similar blades as well although just had some but Sue was not aware of he double action type of wiper blade.
LD I did some serious car maintenance when younger including fitting new engine big end bearings and complete engine rebuilds fitting clutches- timing with a strobe etc . Also rebuilt a morris miner body and resprey,so I know my way around most car issues. Hence the memory jog as mentioned
I replaced my wiper blades with some Bosch ones realspeed and they are brilliant!..
yes they are OGF but one has to be careful of getting the right type even Bosh ones.
You can clean the traffic film & smearing off windscreens with T Cut or similar
Also give the wiper blades a clean with T Cut on a rag
T cut is for bodywork paint not for window screens and quite abrasive so not the product I would use
I’ve used T-cut on glass in the past and it causes no damage realspeed, and it does remove the greasy residue from years of motoring, which standard cleaners will not touch.
I’ve used T Cut a few times during the years I’ve been driving & had a car - and that’s the point
I’ve probably only used it once a year, if that, just to remove stubborn smears, then wash off with plenty of water
Try it on an odd corner and see how you get on
Just tried original T cut on a side widow and it had no effect in removing the smear as I suspected
