Will Germans freeze this winter?

It is reported that due to the low levels of water in the river Rhine this year
the planned recommissioning of Germanies coal fired power stations
cannot be fully utilized due to the coal not being able to be tansported by
barge ?? This, combined with the russian gas being uavailable leaves germany
eith a problem as to deliver the coal by lorries it will not be possible to supply
the coal quickly enough for continuous generation of power!!
And we thoughtbwe had problems ??
:roll_eyes::roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

winter is worrying for all of us. Germany is far colder than here in winter, but I am sure they are innovative enough to find a solution. More fool them for putting so much reliance on the gas pipeline and decommissioning nuclear as a kneejerk reaction to Fukushima.

Hi

I am not bothered about the Germans, they and their green party and the ones lecturing others about green energy and even worse, still buying from Russia to pay for the war in the Ukraine.

@swimfeeders , lm not bothered about the jerries either Swimmy !
I have made a plan for this winter which relies on my experiences in uk
pre 1976, We had no double glazing/ no insulation /no central heating and
one gas fire for the whole house !!
I intend not to use gas a all and only the bare minimum of electricity this
year and we shall wear survival suits all day , double duvets on beds at night !
If we dont use any power then they cant charge us for it?
If government want to send me any money l will take it !!:+1::grin::grin::+1:

Seriously, don’t try to live without any heating at home!

I tried that last Winter - it still cost me over ÂŁ20 per month in Daily Standing Charges - and what was worse is that, although I kept my body warm with an electric over blanket, which is very cheap to run, I was breathing in very cold, damp air which was very bad for my lungs, so I ended up in hospital with pneumonia.

PS don’t forget that “pre-1976”, you and your lungs were more than 40 years younger!

What makes me sad & mad is that we shouldn’t even need to make these kind of plans in the first place! This is supposed to be the time when we can be proud of the work we have done, we have paid our taxes, and now we should be able put our feet up! Why the heck are we “preparing” to go bloody backwards? :rage:

@Boot yebbut, me grandad was still alive then, and he walked 4 or5
miles at leasttwice a week wearing an old raincoat and a jacket ??
But thanks for your concern !! :+1::+1:

@PixieKnuckles , Yebbutt, its a brave new world we live in pixie !!!
Exciting aint it ?? :grin::grin::grin:

You heard them, Donkeyman.

My advice for what it’s worth: You may want to reconsider living without any heating at all. You might find mold in your home which would be counterproductive.

He was moving and not sitting on the couch, which is a different thing.

@Dachs , Thanks for the advice Dachs, but how do you know what l
do with my time ?
Regarding mould l admit that l had not considered it as a factor?
But as l will not have to keep all the windows closed anymore ( no CH) l
dont think it is likely ? We keep them open at nighttime too !

Sorry. No offence meant. My point was that elderly people like us are - usually - not as active in their homes as someone walking long distances outdoors as in your example.

Hi

I live alone, mostly in one room, they have given me a hospital bed in there.

The upstairs is shut down, heavily insulated and no condensation so mold free.

I have an electric throw for myself and an electric heater again set to 18C.

Fine and dandy and very low cost.

I have a lovely open flame gas fire which I use sparingly.

I could afford more heating but object to paying stupid prices for it.

@swimfeeders , your plan sounds much like mine swimmy ??
I also object to being ripped off by billionaires !!
Im sure we will be ok coz we’ve dunnit before !! :+1::grin::grin::+1:

Hi

I have to keep one room warm as breathing in cold air can cause problems for me.

On cold days when outside a scarf over my mouth does the job.

Hides half of my ugly mug as well.

That’s the trouble with modern housing, no having a door open for the fire to draw, no windows rattling and curtains moving in a gale can’t remember living with mould though.

Because of all the work we are having done we have lots of wood and pallets from deliveries so hubby has been busy cutting it all up for the log burner which we intend to use over winter …we have a really full wood store.

I’m sure the Germans will be OK they will source what they need…it will.cost them though.

@summer , Yeah,nvrry good idea summer!
I assume you are talking of the black forest whenvyou speak
ofnGermany ?? :+1::grin::grin::+1:
