I well remember my first job back in 1960 as a 15 year old starting out as an apprentice electrician. Often having to travel getting so called away from home allowance on top of pay
. Had to do a 60 hr 5day week because those qualifed did and had no way of getting home apart from the works transport.
first pay packet was £5 and15 shillings of which £2 and 5 shillings was the away frolm home allowance
then my parents made me pay 10 shilling (50p in new money) for living at home
how many kids would do that now I wonder
what it did for me is realise one could get on in life by hard graft

I was a party animal at the start, you had to get the 9 to 5 out of the way so you could mingle

Oh yes. I had a 10 gallon aquarium when I was about 10 years old then got a 20 gallon one when I got older. It was a nice community take with guppies, swordtails, tetras, small angel fish, catfish and algae eater. I found it very relaxing.
