I’ve never had Aussie Angus…it looks good on the packaging!
I had a delicious wild boar pie in Borough Market a few years back. Where precisely they sourced the boar from I really don’t know. The meat was far richer and more flavoursome than those anemic excuses for pork pies available in the supermarkets.
Did I read “wild boar”?

You lot are so posh!!!
There are a number of wild boar farms around the UK (so technically not completely wild but its a name not a behaviour). One in Perthshire is in the estate that first released beavers back into the wild.
Gotcha!
Thanks Lincs, I did wonder, lovely pie although the quality was reflected in the price.
Typical Borough Market!
Haven’t been there lately, but there used to be some lovely pie shop and sausage butcher in Clitheroe.
The KFC of the pie world?
Where I am there are local hunts that shoot a lot of boar … and there’s a lot to shoot. So I usually get a slab of boar from them a couple of times a month. I’ve cooked it a few ways but never tried a pie. This winter though as it sounds like a good idea. Any clues as to what else was in the pie or was it boar forward?
I’m afraid not! It was an impulse buy, sadly slabs of wild boar are hard to come by in Southwark ![]()
Affordable ones anyway…
True, Southwark and Bermondsey have gone all gentrified so the usual boar haunts have been greatly reduced
Portugal has the most delicious pork, Porco Preto, black pig. It’s semi domesticated, left to run wild among the cork oaks and eat the acorns.

The meat is dark with lots of fat.

Way before my time!![]()
I can remember pulling these fellas out of The Thames willy nilly

An endangered species now!
are those eels?
Yes they are, a cheap source of protein for many in days gone by. We’d catch them as kids without even trying, especially when night fishing. I’ve never fancied the jellied eels experience! ![]()
Gorgeous when smoked though ![]()
