When Was The Last Time

You bought an item of new clothing?

Or a pair of new shoes?

Only this morning I bought two pairs of demin shorts from my local boutique Lowes

They look really smart shorts ,Bruce,:+1::+1:

Yesterday I boughta blouse but im taking it back as it was too baggy. They don’t let you try clothes on in changing rooms anymore. She told me I could try it on on the shop floor …erm OK like I’m gonna strip off and let everyone see me droopy boobs!

Years ago!

When I took early retirement about 10 years ago I also downsized into a flat, and had a stock take of everything, from teaspoons upwards, and came to the conclusion that I had enough STUFF to last me for the forseeable future, and only bought a few things as replacements or when necessary

I’ve since relaxed slightly, as a bit of retail therapy is nice, now & again
The main thing was replacing a load of pots & pans, as those I had were quite battered & worn

As far as clothes go, I bought -
a new waterproof jacket for hiking as I planned on doing more of that
a couple of pairs of jeans in charity shops
new underpants & socks as I had deliberately run those down in preparation for the move
a few better T shirts since I no longer needed to wear a shirt & tie to work

Even those were a few years ago, definitely before the Lockdown

And that’s about it; I’m not replacing clothes that have worn out, and 'll continue to do so

However, I’ve realised that although I haven’t yet fallen into the ‘letting yourself go’ look of retirement, I’m only just scraping into the ‘smart but casual’ look
So I might just get a new set of clothes - an outfit? a wardrobe?
That is, new shoes (I wear trainers most of the time) trousers, and a jacket (are they still called sports jackets?) I already have plenty of shirts

But to use another cliche, I don’t want to look like mutton dressed as lamb. What I want is a sort of timeless classic gentleman’s look, but I don’t know how many proper, decent tailors and gentleman’s outfitters have survived the Lockdown, and I’m reluctant to use online shopping for these sort of clothes
Oh well, we shall see.
Of course, it would help if I lost a bit of weight, but that’s another story

Oh, a postscript
Since I retired I’ve taken up leatherwork, and among other things, I’ve made belts for myself and the rest of the family

Shoes fairly recently, but I could do with new clothes. I always wear the same fleece and shirt and reckon those who see me regularly must be fed up of seeing them! The shirt has two pockets, handy for keys, masks and tissues but is getting very tattered. I must find a replacement. I wouldn’t mind a loose jumper. Off to Norwich Tuesday with my sister so may have a look then.

I have a couple of denim shirts - they look better when they’re a bit worn & scruffy

A couple of weeks ago when I was down in Perth. I went mad in Matalan, Bonmarche and George. We don’t have any shops like that up here, the nearest is just over 100 miles south in Inverness. So I always shop when I’m home for a while.
