What's your take on Internet Dating?

It’s a jungle out there for sure. Best to stay way from online dating and seek face to face contact through living life.

Apart from the obvious dangers (getting scammed/meeting a loony) keep in mind that most dating sites - especially the larger ones - make a lot of money from selling your data, including your private messages! Imagine a future client or employer deciding to buy your info! :icon_eek:

It occurs to me this dating stuff, online allows two folks who are happy in their own company to unite, nowt to do with opposites attract

Heard … HEARD?? I didn’t know typed words emitted sounds
You should place those you do not wish to read about on “ignore content” :+1:

One of my young friends is out there doing online dating, he says it’s really hard working out the etiquette

He’s trying Bumble at the moment, and the rules there are that only the woman can make the first move, initial contact

How it works is that peoples profiles come up and if it’s someone you’re interested in, you swipe right

If they’ve swiped right on you too, a match is created, but only the woman can take it further and make contact. If they don’t, the match is just cancelled after 24 hours

It has an option for just making friends rather than romance too

He’s seen a lady on there that he met in another site and although they didn’t click romantically they’ve stayed friends and email, message each other

But he doesn’t like to mention her Bumble profile!

This can be very frustrating and sad for guys. He swipes right and never gets a match?
Heartbreaking really.

Yes, it probably is, but what happened to good old fashioned tried-n-tested mingling? I know I’m old and probably well out of touch, but in my dating days, mingling was a great way of meeting friends of both sexes. From night spots to pubs and even some clubs proved excellent places to meet people.
When I owned and ran a band of like minded musicians, we were always meeting new people and a small handful are still friends who keep in touch, but alas, age has culled some of them

People have forgotten the art of mingling, and it is an art.
Always the best way to meet people.

I first saw Mrs Fox in a pub, she was with her boyfriend at the time…He looked like a miserable sod and I made her laugh. I saw her walking down the street one evening some days later and pulled over in my motor and asked if she would like to accompany me to a Chinese restaurant, she answered yes and climbed in…The rest is history… :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I think so too…my swiping is appalling, I dread to think what might happen!

Same here. Never done it, never will. :slightly_smiling_face:

ive never used a dating site as such but thru forums, over time you get to know each other basically… ive met two ladies one was really nice but the other, erm wasnt… but you get to a time in your life when you only need a pal… now that may well be a lady, but ladies need to look out some guys want a maid not a mate…
