My 1st set of wheels after motorcycles was a beast, a Willys Jeep with its LH drive and 3 forward gears. Next was my Austin K8 van for my band (also a passion waggon) and a Ford Zyphya Zodiac 6 run at the same time. I hung onto the Jeep for many years until a war memorabilia enthusiast offered me a silly price I could not refuse.
The best car I owned was a Daimler Double Six (real smooooth) and the worst was a Fiat 2300 estate (rust bucket).
My first was a Hillman Imp. It was quicker than a Mini. Since that I had company cars until I retired.
I did not buy a car until after I had been riding motorbikes for a lot of years. My first car was a second hand hybrid Ford Escort Estate. It was the new mark 2 Ford Escort front end, but Ford had not made a new rear end for the estates at that time, so the rare end was mark 1.
But my first vehicle was a small, elderly Massey Ferguson 35x, aged about 13. I was working part time on a local farm & that, I was told, was now my vehicle. From time to time I was allowed to drive the Masey Furgesson 1200, or the John Deere 710, 2120 etc.
My favourite car owned is a Stimpson Scortcher. A three wheeler made using the front end of a mini.
Forgot to say, I took my motorbike test shortly before my car test & brought a Honda CB750F1 the same day that I passed. It had ape hanger handle bars, high compression pistons & a skimmed head. A 4 into 1 exhaust with a megaphone silencer. And was LOUD.
My first car was a prewar Austin 8. Next was a 1949 Hillman Minx.
From the beginning of our marriage our first two vehicles were motorbikes. First one was Suzuki 250 and the 2nd was Honda 550 with full fairing.
We then upgraded to a car which was a reliant Van as you could drive a 3 Wheeler on a motorbike license. When the van was buggered we got another 3 Wheeler. Right bone shakers they were especially the van.
Then john passed his test and our first proper car was a triumph herald, a green one.
I’m just remember with a smile on my face how we had to bump start our 3 Wheeler cars , neighbours giving is a push lol
When our son was born we had a souped up Ford cortina…it was a right police puller
Since then we’ve had Renault Meghan. I felt right posh in it lol.
We’ve had 2 peugeots, one which was wrote off in September in our crash. We bought another the same out of insurance money as I really liked the peugeot I drive this one mostly. Our second car is a Hyundai which is old but a damn good runner.
I’m not one of these people who wants a big car, I much prefer a small car. I dont know most of car makes as they don’t bother me, it’s just a necessity so I can work and see to my dad etc.
My first vehicle was a used Volkswagon bug in Germany (Army wife for three years), then home to Florida and civilian life with a 1965 Ford Mustang. It was 4 years old, and we loved that car!
Vauxhall Cresta, something like this:
Very American, very rusty, unstable at speed, but a lot of fun. You could get 3 or 4 people (at a pinch) in the front seat, bench seat with column gear shift.
Suzuki 125 was the bike, moved onto a 185 trial. car was a mini, followed by a Fiat 125, MK 2 cortina, since then its been Ford or Vauxhalls.
My bikes were a BSA C11G, A10, B30 and B33 (I liked BSAs).
My first car was a 1947 Hillman Minx, side valve engine, leaf springs front and back, cable brakes, flat windscreen that could be opened, vacuum operated wipers that worked independently of each other and a leaky sunshine roof. Oh yes - dozens of grease points! Cost me £10.
Heap of crap but had a lot of fun with it even though you needed to spend every weekend working to keep it going.
My first vehicle after passing my driving test was a Land Rover. Actually, it wasn’t mine; it belonged to the RAF.
My real first vehicle was a (scond hand) Vauxhall Viva. I seem to remember it was PYW 261.
Funny how the memory works. That’s from years and years ago, but Marge gets mad with me when I forget something from last week.
My first number plate was ACH112 but don’t you need to know that in the UK?
I seem to remember it was the first question the police asked if they stopped you. I doubt many people know their number plate here because it changes every time you damage or lose the plates. You need to know your driving licence number instead.
My first car was a vw golf.
Snap! That was my first car too, Besoeker.
Then I think I had a Ford Fiesta followed by a Mini Clubman, then 3 Morris Minors - a Traveller, a pick up, then the saloon, and a vauxhall Astra later.
Loved the old Moggies though.
I think I was 1965 at the time. Unfortunately it was not the most reliable. I did a not of work on it including removing the engine to fix it my dad’s garage. Blown gaskets were the demise.
Life moves on.
First vehicle Suzuki 400 1978
Second vehicle Kawasaki Ninja 1988
My first car was a FIAT 131 Miafiori, which promptly fell apart in the few months I had it.
I learnt to driver in a Landrover, at about 12 years old on the family farm.
Had to google that. I know the Mirafiori name, but couldn’t place it. The were regarded quite sporty weren’t they?
