When I was a young lad the fist fights I had without exaggeration have been to many to count Those were the days without cell phones , etc and you could fight with impunity plus no weapons used .

Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying as I was no Jack Dempsey ( also a popular fish / cichlid) as they say about us men , We are fighters , lovers or we laugh at our own jokes and that is where I come in .

Being a strange person I always sided with the odd man out and being " insane " I had no qualms about fighting plus not like I was going to win a beauty contest so broken nose several times was no big deal .

Now being an old Bloke I have lost count how many times people let me have it because I am opinionated but I have never taken it to heart and as everyone knows life goes on.

I was not liked at all when I first moved here and now though no celebrity I am liked by everyone and if in front yard people actually stop to talk , go figure .

@NotCompSavvy I see what you mean. Life teaches us that sometimes it is better not to fight back. Just walk away and keep your peace. That is also my way. Broken noses are too expensive for me anyway. :joy:

Here in the USA there are mass shootings / school shootings several times a year in fact one school shooting today and sadly we are numb to this and has become part of our culture

@NotCompSavvy No wonder people there have become numb, and honestly my country might be even worse haha. If someone yelled at me here, I’d probably just run Olympic style! :sweat_smile: Stay safe and take care of yourself. :yellow_heart:

When someone is yelling at me, I’ll completely ignore them, check my phone, look at my computer screen, check out the window… absolutely anything to let them know that I’m not listening to them. When they stop or pause for breath, I say something like, “I’m sorry. Were you saying something?” If they want to yell some more, I’ll continue to ignore them. As a last resort, during another pause, I’ll say something like, “People who ignore a shout will strain to hear a whisper.” I will completely ignore anything said until it is said in a normal, respectful voice. I grew up with three brothers (four boys) and parents who always argued at full volume. I can ignore anything. I never resort to violence. I will, however, respond to violence in an overwhelming fashion. They can yell all they want, unless they want to be heard.

My troop corporal then my troop sergeant then my Sgt Major…then it was my turn,
I shouted at the toms, then I shouted at Corporals and Toms then I shouted at Sgts, Cpls and toms
I rarely shouted at Ossifers. I advised them in a raised voice

Suicide here in the USA unless Colonel and above but even then unheard of but again maybe misread your post .

I see you made it a career in the states we call 20 years plus ’ Lifers ’ , I got out an E-4 which as you know is much of nothing but have to say I was fortunate ( have been my entire life ) .

I got shouted at by Sgt Majors :grinning: Then as a Sgt Major I shouted at everyone…yeh did 27 …good times. I did spend 2 year working with Spec 4s and 5s very early in my career, very educational, brown bagging, SOS for breakfast, driving around Europe in a beat up VW at 19 years of age. :grinning: Then a wake-up call, 2 years active service in The Yemen and that was fun.

Lol oh you were a Sgt Major .

When with the Cav though never went out on patrol the Captain which was highest rank there would wear a black Cavalry hat but when the Sgt Major flew in from HQ all that nonsense came to a halt and even wearing uniform at base which was rare we did .

Edit , I can see how you would miss it because regardless of rank when one is a ‘’ lifer ’ they miss it .

A few retirees in my area from Army , Airforce and Marines and they seriously miss it .
