What was the point of COP

Where are the climate change activist and where’s Greta when she’s needed.

It’s all just a free jolly for those attending.

Agreed. The whole “event” was a complete waste of everything - time, space, oxygen, fuel, etc, etc.

A deal aimed at staving off dangerous climate change has been struck at the COP26 summit in Glasgow.

The Glasgow Climate Pact is the first ever climate deal to explicitly plan to reduce coal, the worst fossil fuel for greenhouse gases.

But the pledges don’t go far enough to limit temperature rise to 1.5C.

A commitment to phase out coal that was included in earlier negotiation drafts led to a dramatic finish after India and China led opposition to it.

It took the COP26 two weeks and £10 million to come to the same conclusion as everyone else.

Complete disaster …

Well its going to be in Egypt next year…

Can’t agree it was a complete waste of time and Greta was there wasn’t she?

Already the Australian Federal Government is already under pressure at home to revise its 2035 targets which they said they would not even though they already claim they are going to beat them. That pressure is coming from within their own party.

The US and China have also come to some agreement over climate targets since COP26.

To say it was a complete waste of time is a nonsense even if it didn’t achieve everything it set out to do.

As an addendum to my previous post the Deputy PM, National Party leader good old Barnaby, has been out pushing the advantages of Coal (He put coal in the COALition). Both the Coalition and the Labor party are having a hard time being all things to all men

More of a COP-out. Complete waste of time and money, and hypocrisy on a mammoth scale.

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) says that, at current rates, the UK will be contributing to a disastrous temperature rise of 2.7C by 2100.

It says this could - in theory - be brought down to just under 2C.

But this could only happen if ministers agree tougher policies, and if other nations slash emissions too.

The government insists that it will meet all its climate change targets.

Scientists say any temperature rise approaching 2C is extremely dangerous, so green groups want the UK to improve its emissions targets.

But the CCC says Britain will set a better example to the world if it keeps the same targets but actually delivers them through stronger policies.

It maintains that the government must nudge people towards greener lifestyles, and must tackle emissions from farming more aggressively.

The committee’s chief executive, Chris Stark, said: "The government is nowhere near achieving current targets.

That’s BJ for you - all mouth and no trousers … :man_shrugging:

All talk and no action, as per usual. That is why there has been 26 of these events and the 27th will be in Egypt.

Turtle becomes embroiled in netting and plastic waste to its severe injury, causing it to be flown 5,000 miles to another location. Two issues regarding saving the environment and climate change right off the bat.

COP was a waste of time, in my opinion.

We all know that the only viable solution is to reduce global population.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t tend to lead to growth in financial markets, so will never be endorsed.

If coal is utilised for power AND complete carbon capture is in place, the whole world will be able to breathe far more easily :ok_hand::+1:
