What secret did your parents keep from you?

Don’t I know it

From Planet Arrakis? Their hobby was breeding Sandworms?

We can not choose our parents but we can choose not to take on their traits. :grinning:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I killed my mother’s roses! She had a row of stunning roses and I cut them all up with scissors. I blamed the neighbors, who my parents had a falling out with and who were moving out of their home.

Hated those flowers when I was younger. The thorns

Financially they were great parents. I was never lacking anything materialistic speaking. Showing their love and caring, they lacked a lot. They left us a lot to do things they wanted to do. We were known as latch key kids. I left when I was 16 and cared for myself while I put myself through school.
Lol… a bit late answering. One year …:joy:

That my mother was pregnant with my brother when they married and that Dad had been engaged to someone else at the time. Didn’t find out until Dad had died and Mum was in her 70s. It does explain his treatment of us and his lack of affection.

For me, this is a complex question. My father kept many things from me, all of which I found out when he left home. For me, I must have had a thousand secrets I kept from my father - all in the name of self preservation, being the victim of abuse. When you are being “raised” whilst subject to abusive, secrets are the only thing you can possess which have any use or value.

Mine are many…
last few months of Mothers dementia ridden life was the worst of course…She constantly told me Your Sister is Going to be so Surprised when I die…I had learnt over the year’s now that was another of her thorns…What she said about my Sister was also applied to me…
It did cause a big heartache with the family as she changed my late Fathers true wishes and left the estate to my oldest Son…Father and her had booked in a grave place at Bandon Hill Wallington many years back…He sadly died from serious illness and she, before she died, she stated she wished to be cremated in a completely different area…Father is all alone in my heart and that really was painful to bear. How horrid she was…I never sent flowers or acknowledged her passing and wish her to be in Hell in truth…guess she is.

For years I believed in :santa: Santa Claus. My parents always made sure there was a gift under the :evergreen_tree: tree. They’d leave the window slightly open and told us four little girls that Santa was coming. We’d wake up Christmas morning to gifts under the tree.

Until one naughty Christmas Eve, I got up past midnight and snuck down the stairs only to see my dad lying out the gifts under the tree. My heart was shattered. There wasn’t any Santa Claus.

I kept the same tradition with my two kids. Christmas in my household is a very big and special occasion.

Always good to relate things on our minds. No matter the time frame. Thank you for sharing.

How did you find out this information?

I understand this concept.
Being raised in an abusive situations engenders the necessity for secrets. Lest the abuser becomes more enraged.

I personally have no recollection of coming to the conclusion that “Santa” was a fake concept.

It wasn’t until I went for glasses was I told that there was glaucoma in the family history from my mothers side. my parents never said a word to me about it this resulted in having a "stent " placed behind one eye ball and the other taking eye drops twice a day. My cousin on my mothers side he actually hs gone blind in one eye. Both my sons know I don’t want to keep that from them so they are aware
