I’m a fairly recent convert to podcasts. I’m curious about what others, who enjoy podcasts, have found good and interesting.
I find them great when doing something otherwise a bit tedious - such as mowing the grass or working my way around my gym routine. Lately I’ve been enjoying James O’Brien’s full disclosure interviews (some eye opening chats - especially from Hanif Kureishi) and the Al Murray / James Holland WW2 series. I also dip into the Rest is Politics (getting too depressing though) and the Rest is History. What else good is out there?
I note there was a thread on podcasts about 3 years ago but this ended quickly and seemed to mainly be people saying they did not listen to them or did not understand the tech. I hope that this thread can be positive contributions about good podcasts instead.
the one that goes “pop” in the advert
I listen to " If You’re Listening" a very interesting series from the ABC. there is a video version too.

I had a look at some of these - they are excellent. The UK would benefit from such deep dives into key topics.
I am not sure if she counts as a podcaster. But I watch Dr Tamitha Skov, “the space weather woman.” She tells us about the space weather in the same way you get the earth weather reports.
Blimey, who knew? Is it like the shipping forecast but for the space station?
Solar storms effect the earths atmosphere & can cause severe issues. For example, they can black out radio transmissions, cause satellites to malfunction, even fall out of the sky & back in about 1990, they caused a power outage in Canada, for 9 hours during a severely cold period & caused power companies worldwide to introduce plans to deal with solar induced current surges. During WW2 one solar storm caused voltages to surge on long US phone lines to voltages as high as 400 volts.
Solar weather can kill. And not just by power outrages during cold periods. Aircraft rely upon GPS & communication systems which are effected.
Being coastal, I usually listen to the Shipping Forecast Inshore Waters at 00:45 hrs, but I don’t know if it’s a podcast or not.
Thanks for that Geli, extremely interesting to me and saved in my favourites.
