What is the difference between a Nerd and a Geek?

This is not a wanna be joke, no punch line.
A nerd is…?
A Geek is…?

I used to know the answer to this off the top of my head but can’t think of it now. I’d have to look it up.

I guess they are pretty much the same. I haven’t heard the nerd word in a while, 20 or 30 years maybe. It was popular 50 or 60 years ago. A geek, now that’s more recent, its use has grown with the personal computer and computer problems. A geek is required to fix it.

Here’s one explanation as to how they should be used. If they are, is a different question:
“First, “nerd” tends to be used to describe someone who is academically inclined and has a deep knowledge of a particular subject. “Geek,” on the other hand, is more broadly used to describe someone who is passionate about a specific topic or activity, regardless of their academic pursuits.”
