What have you done with your camera today

Have you made a clearing round your property @bret ,? I read that one house that survived in the wild fires had a Tin roof , and the others that burnt around them did not .

Less than 24 hours ago, a Sunflower growing on the allotment…

this is the surviving one!! we had a brand new housing estate set in the ‘woods’ fighting approaching fires last year or two - that felt a bit too close for me but we stayed clear. The only fire I remember recently is a hooligan in a stolen car who crashed the car a street away from us against a tree and the car caught ablaze - that brought out the cops and fire brigade - and remember where we are most of the brigade are local volunteers not getting paid apart from a small stipend

no I was giving an hand signal to sit to my dog she was caught in action , here she is doing the command , I taught her to understand hand commands as well as voice .
I put the wrong photo up first time .
If i touch my shoulder with my hand thats a signal to sit .

Sorry Eliza, I was being a bit mischievous…
I guessed it was your dog just obeying commands… :+1:
:sunglasses:
It looked similar to some encounters I’ve had with our canine friends in the past and the outcome wasn’t so friendly…I guess having being a runner and postman aren’t the best things you could do to attract a friendly welcome from some dogs.

Wasted apples on the allotment…

It breaks my heart when most supermarkets buy apples from New Zealand, South Africa and France to name but a few…Ironically, the two supermarkets that pride themselves on selling locally sourced and British food are German…

The apples don’t take long to start going bad once they have fallen. They aren’t all usually wasted. The best are gathered up, the bad parts removed and the good parts put though a juicer to make really nice apple juice. Then bottled and stored in a freezer.

The allotment owner is unavoidably away at present, so I’m on daily watering and crop picking duties. A bit difficult to get around to everything when not fully staffed. :slightly_smiling_face: My son and I will tidy up the apples for when she gets back.

Always plenty of flowers grown on the allotments. Not only because they make it a nice place but also because they keep the bees coming…

My excitement on this rainy day was meeting a heritage narrowboat coming through the lock we were waiting to enter on restored Montgomery Canal.

Saturn is the last surviving wooden Shropshire Union “Fly-boat”, built in Chester in 1906. Her job was to rush cheese and produce, fresh from the farms of Cheshire and Shropshire, to the markets of the industrial towns and cities, running 24 hours, day & night.
It was built to be horse-drawn but when we met at The Graham Parker Lock, it was being towed by another old boat.
The volunteers on board told us that the Saturn was going to be doing some horse-drawn journeys along the Montgomery from tomorrow - sadly, we have to leave the Monty tomorrow, so we will miss seeing that but I took a few photos of the rare sight of the old wooden boat being taken through a lock and towed out of it by another old cargo-carrying boat.

The cargo carrier boat leaves lock and stops at lock gates, alongside our boat, to wait for the Saturn to come up the lock.

The Saturn comes through lock and ties back up to the tow-boat

Saturn is towed out of the lock and the two boats chug on past us.
