What fact can you share that not many people would know?

Back in the 1700’s tomatoes were considered poisonous.

I think it was the lead in the pewter plates and the acidic toms caused it to to leach out and they got the blame. :grinning:

:south_africa: South Africa was the first country in the world to voluntarily give up its nuclear weapons.

In the early 1990s, South Africa dismantled its nuclear arsenal, a bold move for peace and democracy. A proud and little-known moment in global history.

There is a type gecko in my area which are only females and they reproduce . They are tiny Mourning Geckos not to be confused with the bigger Caribbean geckos

L. lugubris is primarily nocturnal, but is occasionally encountered exposed but near cover during the day.

This species is all female, and reproduces via parthenogenesis . While males occasionally occur, they are very rare and often sterile Females lay 1–2 eggs at a time, and glue them to surfaces in protected locations. Clutches are laid every 4–6 weeks.

Since you yourself know nature you are aware that lizards do not live in groups , interact like that without fighting , chasing each other off .

Few years back I noticed a small type gecko like in colonies they would come out by my patio lights at night and unlike the bigger Caribbean geckos who give each other space these small bit different color geckos were in groups .

A neighbor told me they are Mourning geckos and how interesting as all females .

Wow, I didn’t know there were so many different types of geckos. I’ll have to try and take a photo of the ones we have here, don’t see them often but they are around, usually at night, and it’s always only one, on its own, climbing up the side of the house . I often find one in my mailbox but it scrambles away so fast, it’s impossible to photograph it. Lizards are a nuisance, they damage my fly screens!

Hi

Brown Rats get pregnant again within 5 hours of giving birth.

Warfarin, the common blood thinner, was used as a rat poison.

Warfarin does not work well with vegetarians, it is affected by vitamin K, found in leafy vegetables.

My first post grad paper was written on Warfarin.

For a brief period of time I had a pair of Gold Dust Day Geckos in yard I would see them during day , stunning colors and think they were around due to fruit plants I had in assorted pots in yard .

Other then pythons I have never found non natives a problem and considering the outrageous construction going on in Florida it is bit hypocritical for the state to complain about non natives as bulldozers devour the land .

Here the native Indigo snake had to be reintroduced as golf courses have taken over their habitat .

42 Eastern Indigo Snakes Released Into Florida’s Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve

We are so excited to see signs of progress as we enter our ninth year reintroducing this iconic species onto the landscape of Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve,” Dr. James Bogan, Director for the Central Florida Zoo’s Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation said in a statement announcing the release of the snakes. “With this year’s release, we will have reintroduced almost 500 indigos back into the wild between the Florida and Alabama release sites.
