We had a Tesco home delivery only 45 minutes ago. We tend to use either them or Asda’s home delivery service (occasionally Morrisons) every week by preference now. Never go shopping in the supermarket as we used to do before Covid. We also shop with Iceland online (home delivery). I like some of the frozen meals from their luxury range.
I go into the Co-op a few hundred yards away for any bit’s a pieces needed between online shopping deliveries.
I’ve had my shopping delivered for many years and I would never change back to trawling around the supermarket for my weekly groceries. I do visit the supermarket occasionally for a browse and to see what is on offer but it’s more of a leisurely wander.
Me too, MF, although I use the Tesco click & collect system.
Like SilverTabby, I hate grocery store shopping. When I found out that I could get food delivered to me, I thought it was the best thing ever. Even before Covid, I would get non-perishables delivered. Grocery store delivery is a bit expensive, so I’m trying to balance that out with getting non-perishable food delivered, which is free delivery.
Back in March’20 when the lockdown was imminent both my son and daughter insisted I applied for home delivery as they were concerned about us catching C-19 if we went out as we were in the vulnerable group. My daughter used to bring some of my shopping and she wasn’t well herself.
I had never had a home delivery before and quite honestly, I didn’t like the idea. It suddenly made me realise how serious the situation was and I agreed to try it. My son contacted Sainsbury’s and before I knew it, I received an email from Sainsbury’s informing me they had put me on their vulnerable list.
It was very strange at first but I was soon used to it. I have nothing but praise for Sainsbury’s, the drivers have all been so jolly and polite, ask how we are, help by stacking the crates so I don’t have to bend over too much…… and always close the gate when they leave.
I’ve never ever had a supermarket delivery… maybe I should though because I know they deliver to this village and going to kthe supermarket isnt my favourite pastime .
Mags my daughter worked for Sainsbury’s when she was at University she said they were really good employers…so top marks to them all round.
I would never buy ‘ready meals’ now slimming or otherwise - have tried them in the past - not impressed.
There is a warehouse version near me now as well - it seems to be the in thing. Had a look when they first opened but their so-called ‘fresh’ fruit and veg left a lot to be desired.
I tried Woollies home delivery once last year and was not impressed.
The main concern for me was that you had to spend a minimum of $50 and they charge you 15c per bag used. They also substitute goods.
I placed my order on a Thursday and the earliest delivery slot was Sunday morning. The delivery was fine and on time but you certainly couldn’t order something urgently.
Since then Woollies have introduced a click and collect system but I haven’t tried it. It appears to be quite popular as when I walk past the pick up site there is usually a car there packing their purchases. It is is all non contact and pickups are timed/booked.
I live about a 2 to 5 minute walk from three supermarkets and with the current lockdown I go at about 7am when there are not many about (I did it this morning)
I never had a home delivery before lockdown, now I use them quite often, either Asda or Tesco. The delivery drivers are always so helpful and polite. I do sometimes go to the supermarket, but not so often now, I buy my butcher meat from our local butcher, he delivers for free
We have never had home delivery service for groceries but when we moved here we had to quarantine for 2 weeks so we ordered over the phone and someone delivered them right to our door. I think we paid something like $15 so we think it’s great.
