that is no longer relevant to you?
I learnt
“Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
For thine is the power and the glory
Forever and ever
Amen”
2 to 12 times tables, didn’t everyone?
One two is two, two twos are four…
The only one I could not remember at the time, and which now of course I can’t forget, is “seven eights are fifty six” (Gawd I hope they are!!)
God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen.
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are one and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair!
Always wonder what ‘girt’ means.
Times Tables……
I before E except after C-utter nonsense that one.
Always wonder what ‘girt’ means
There was ridicule regarding that word in the anthem. There still is.
It means in context of the island of Australia “Surrounded by water.”
Etymology - Middle English ( spoken and written in England from about 1100 to about 1500) Girden meaning encircle.
Not a lot really, had some stuff reaffirmed though
Times tables, 2-12, still remember them all!
Lots of songs :
Leaving on a jet plane
Morning has broken
If I had a hammer
Streets of London
Yellow submarine
Morningtown Ride
So many others, they just don’t come to mind at the moment.
Not forgetting all those Christmas carols!
My favourite time of the day, morning assembly with two teachers playing guitar and piano and us kids singing along.
You could get that information off the radio!!
I’m glad it wasn’t just me Rose!
I still remember the words to those traditional hymns, not that I’d volunteer to get up on the stage and sing Holy Holy Holy these days!
Very festive Spitty!
Not quite the same song though!
It’s just words Rose2
Great song though
Ok, I was just answering the question of the new thread.
I know, suppose what I was saying is a list of songs could be picked up from a radio, not exclusively School, it would be hard to know exactly where you first heard a song.
Definitely at school, it was Primary school, I didn’t listen to the radio at that age.
One did not have to consciously listen, stuff can be picked up from background noise, origins can blend with time
The Welsh National Anthem.
Came in handy years later at rugby internationals.
I wandered lonely as a cloud . . .
