What books are you reading now?

Mary Robinson’s memoir. Amazing woman.

Got two books by M.R. Hall The Coroner and The Disappeared. I Also brought home Baggage My Childhood by Janet Street-Porter and I am half way through it.The Tent The Bucket and Me is also here.

While I was looking for these books to reserve I found one called 50 People who have Buggered up Britain so I have that on the back burner to read later.

I wish I had more time to read as these books look very very good.

Don’t you know there’s a war on?
Interesting accounts of the experiences of a collection of people who had lived through the wartime years in England.

Haven’t seen daisymay for a while?

@ Cookiecat, great minds think alike, I too have just reserved ‘The Disappeared’, also the latest Janet Evanovich (really funny books about a New Jersey woman who works as a bond enforcer).

Reason been away is that have recently taken possession of new computer (think I mentioned this elsewhere - terrific bargain should have been £1000, got it for £299!!!) it has 2000 Gig!!! (think I originally said 1k but son corrected me), anyway he transferred stuff from one to 'tother and forgot to set this one up with the ‘remember me’ facility for passwords etc. The thing is has been so long had forgotten all of them, and every site keeps asking me for ident and pass. Was driving me nuts so it was. Anyway 'tis sorted for here, although have actually had to abandon one forum as it just got silly.

Well done, love to hear about a good buy and a bargain. Really looking forward to my ‘reads’ although every minute seems to be taken up with something.

Just finished Jude The Obscure by T Hardy. Was hard going from start to finish but well worth reading. Such a change from my previous book by the same author - Mayor of Casterbridge. Oppressive, depressive and downright annoying at times but nevertheless I’m glad I got through it - eventually.

I didn’t like Janet Street Porter much when I read her book, Baggage, but it was an easy read so I gave it a chance, however, I actually dislike her very much now I have read her book. She is not a nice person who uses and abuses shamefully who although hating her parents lived off of them for years. She never used contraception and when she got pregnant simply had an abortion. On top of everything else she tried to kill her own sister by pushing her down the stairs.

Emma Kennedy’s The Tent, The Bucket and Me made me laugh out loud several times and really funny book about holiday disasters.

Have just received an e-mail from Amazon (ever since I bought something ages ago they keep sending me offers, some actually quit good -the mincer/sausage maker for £29 being a case in point) anyway to get back to what I was saying, they sent me a list of offers for books, and oh boy coming in Oct. the latest Pratchet!! Yay, love love love his books.

Will back up the reviews of Tent, Bucket and Me. I loved it.

Just finished Lost and Found by Tom Winter. I described it the other day in another thread. Read it in about 4 hours.

I’m ready to revisit the library to get fresh. Started going to a different branch which, though smaller than the main one in the town centre, actually has a fantastic collection. The TC branch focuses mainly on computers (2 large rooms and terminals dotted around), and non fiction (large room upstairs), and a huge colourful children’s section.

The shelves of fiction seem to have got smaller.

I could spend my whole days reading.

I read quite alot of ‘learning’ type stuff during the day, so at bedtime I like the opposite, usually anything light hearted and preferably “sloppy”.

Just finishing The World according to Bertie and will be starting The Unbearable Lightness of Scones next. Both by Alexander McCall Smith.

I think I prefer the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency by him and other books about Precious.

On my Kobo Touch I am reading False Memory by Dean Koontz, paper book I am reading king and Maxwell by David Baldacci. I cannot read sloppy love novels. I am never ever without a book in any format.

I haven’t read a Dean Koontz book for some years! Koontz and King were favourites of mine … I’ll have to look False Memory up, is it any good?

No, I don’t like Mills and Boon type novels either.

Right here goes, have just finished JDRobb Concealed in Death, and Stephen Leathers’ Nightfall, have the follow up, Midnight, in the wings, along with The Wolf Gift, by Anne Rice, The Chase by Janet Evanovitch, and Cell, by Robin Cook. While currently am reading Strangers by Koontz, and a ‘fluffy’ little number by Jojo Moyes One plus One.

Not read enough of it to pass an opinion yet, but I like Koontz and have never been disappointed.

Daisymay, glad to see you are reading S. Leather: he is one of my favourites.

Now I am reading Calling Mrs Christmas by Carole Matthews.

Me too Daisymay, I have read all of his books.
Just bought myself a Kindle fire HD, I can now download more books, how much reading can 1 person do??? me, I am OCD when it comes to books.

Reading Kindle too. What a blessing my kindle has been while I was in hospital with its own light, I could read myself to sleep and the options for down loading books just goes on and on each day I get offers from Amazon.

On my Kobo I am reading Tug River Murder by James Knox, this is my bedtime reading, on my Kindle I am reading Fractured by Dani Atkins and on my book chair I am reading Wrongful Death by Lynda La Plante.
Got 2 more reserves come in to the Library for my collection tomorrow.
Just as well I am retired and can devote a lot of my spare time to reading!
In between I play on-line Scrabble.
