Around 25 million copies of this book have been sold. I suspect that less than 100 people actually made any sense of it. Like you, I’m not one of them.
It must have been about thirty years ago when I first read it but frustratingly had forgotten the title of the volume.
To cut a long story short I was on a course last week when the subject of helicopters cropped up.The fella I was chatting to was able to refresh my memory.
Anybody else read Normal People by Sally Rooney. It sold in millions and got fantastic reviews. To be fair, I very much liked it and it is beautifully written. But for me, the problem was the two main characters. I just found them (both young adults) to be hugely irritating. Self obsessed, indecisive and pish at communicating. If that is the new normal then the human race is doomed. Apart from that a very good book!
Currently I am about a quarter way through the book (about page 100 of 400) and already it has become a book that I don’t want to end.
There is a major character from the The Handmaids Tale, the Aunt Lydia is featured but some of the other characters are becoming clearer in their relationship to the original book though not yet actually identified.
I couldn’t resist a peek at the first episode of the series on Disney+ but I did restrain myself after a few minutes - I saw enough to see that it has been well made. I think the series has 10 episodes and they are being released on a weekly basis, with seven to this date, so that once I have finished the book all the episodes will be available (or nearly so).
If you have read and enjoyed The Handmaids Tale then I don’t think The Testaments will disappoint.
