What are your thoughts on Digital ID

Is everyone happy to have to carry Digital ID
or is it a step too far?
And what are the implications of Digital ID known as ‘Britcard’?

Foxy, if you believe the hype, its three years away and will only affect those seeking work, most on here have been dodging work for years now, no problemo

Thin end of the wedge though Spitty?
You do realise that without a digital ID you will not be able to access your account and be cancelled?
Every man is an Island without a Digital ID…

I see it all Foxy, but, a day counter don’t care, unless its all a deception, then, its a whole new world and there ain’t no compensation for that

FWIW, I don’t think it’ll make any difference at all to “smash the gangs”, nor the black market jobs. So it’s a complete fallacy for Starmer to suggest it will.

The state also doesn’t have an entirely great history in maintaining data security. Given Starmer’s history on ruthlessly trying to control free speech, I also have significant concerns about what his (and those of his ilk) real motivation is.

Bad idea IMHO.

Yes, just another double edged sword.

Hi

It would make life so much easier to identify people, saving hours and hours of Police time as well as other agencies.

ID cards are common elsewhere and no great hassle for ordinary people
If we don’t have them fine .

We must remember that it would mean nothing would change and the illegals would continue their advantages

Every time there is a crisis, new laws come in, then there is ambiguousness.

Some quick thoughts

  1. Does Starmer and the govt think the British people are dumb? They are selling this as ‘all workers must prove they have a right to work’ (in other words, they are taking a line out of racists like Farage’s playbook) because isn’t it already a legal responsibility of the EMPLOYER to tell the tax man/govt who is working for them? Because if they’re not already then ID cards are not going to make any difference. Of course the govt know this - they just want to move more and more towards an authoritarian govt!

  2. I feel terribly sorry for future generations. If starmer and farage and all these other despicable politicians get their way your grandchildren and great-grandchildren are going to be living in a police state.

Hopefully he thinks the same as me! If not, it wouldn’t surprise me :101:

It’s a strange sign of the times that (leaving Farage out of it for a moment) JRM, myself and you are in total agreement on this. :flushed:. Scary what Starmer has managed to achieve…he’s uniting the country like no other issue :bangbang:

I could write my number on with a Sharpie :icon_wink:

Actually because I only have a mobile the only people I never give my number to are charities because they do ring and ask for more money. Anybody else can ring me because I can always block unsavoury characters.

I am not familiar with the UK ID card proposal. Bob Hawke suggested an “Australia Card” ID in the 1980s but it was rejected and no one has suggested it since, driving licences are adequate.

It even has its own Wikipedia page

I should say that plenty of countries have ID cards for their citizens, Malaysia for one. They don’t seem too be very bothered by them - they don’t have to find 100 points of ID just to open a bank account.

Is it criminal to allow people to buy entry into the USA with $100,000?

Zebra Question

I asked the zebra
Are you black with white stripes?
Or white with black stripes?
And the zebra asked me,
Or you good with bad habits?
Or are you bad with good habits?
Are you noisy with quiet times?
Or are you quiet with noisy times?
Are you happy with some sad days?
Or are you sad with some happy days?
Are you neat with some sloppy ways?
Or are you sloppy with some neat ways?
And on and on and on and on
And on and on he went.
I’ll never ask a zebra
About stripes
Again.

The back of a USA State Drivers licenses have a swipe strip of digital info, all Credit cards also.

I just worry about QR Code Ai availability and its 2-dimensional Barcode, what can happen with a screwy puzzle.
Ya the QR code is a screwball puzzle, thaws all. I you quickly glance at it you sort of see 6 or more vertical columns.

Is its a replacement for the magnetic strip or the code on most products in a grocery store.

In summary, QR codes are a powerful tool for data storage and retrieval, offering a more efficient and user-friendly alternative to traditional barcodes. They are widely used in various sectors, including automotive, IT, and general marketing, to streamline processes and enhance connectivity.

My worry is “Connectivity” is the word!
