It would appear that it’s one way traffic Muddy. Thousands of people being let in to the UK but very few being let out…
However, we were living the dream, Before the sixties and seventies hardly any of our young people were traveling and working abroad. They can now, and this flitting from country to country is the main reason that covid came here and the main reason why we are in the mess that we find ourselves in. Young people should be learning trades and working to make the UK a better place not swanning off to foreign parts. It’s why you can’t find a tradesman for love nor money.
And if retirees can’t afford to live abroad then so be it, my heart bleeds for them…
Quite so Foxy, our potential future trades people swan of to mainland Europe then mainland Europeans come here and fill the skill void for half the price, it must be childless folks who are reaping the benefit.
We don’t want to return to the fifties .
I don’t want to deny young people the opportunity to see and work in other countries
If you want a bunch of undereducated tradesmen cheerfully pulling their foreheads to their orders and betters well done .
We don’t want that, we want educated young people who have a sense of adventure and an open mind not a load of stick in mud serfs
It seem to me that many of the older generations having enjoyed all the benefits of being a baby bloomer would deny them to the young people of today .
No - that’s me…
Why not, it must be preferable to the caves
If you produce a country of overqualified workers who have to seek employment abroad, who is going to wire your house, do your plumbing, build a house or take care of your medical needs Muddy? It’s not the baby boomers that deny the young folk the opportunity to swan off to foreign parts, it’s just returning to the default position before Blair thought it was a good idea to send all of our prospective engineers, bricklayers and plumbers to university where they could major in arts and crafts or environment issues…
The calendar affirms true age. The DNA makes 20 years younger.
It’s both a blessing and a curse. Believing that “Happily Ever After!” was true.
I was happy but it was all a smoke screen. The weariness of finding true love the second time around. The possibilities are endless but the trust is waning fast…
That’s the whole point Foxy it’s WASNT the overqualified workers who ‘swan’ off to foreign parts .
It’ was ANY young person who could work in Europe .
, be he a plumber , electrician or simply just doing bar work in order to learn a language .
He or she could be a travel representative , a chalet cook in a ski resort or in a holiday camp
Wealthy young people can still go to Europe it’s doesn’t matter if they can afford to live without working.
Who it shuts the door on are the poorer young people who wanted to travel and WORK .
What wrong with that ?
Taking a year to live in live and work in Europe doesn’t mean they won’t come back and be a plumber .
What they will do is come back with a broader mindset they will have seen a different culture and learned the language not just as a Ryan air passenger for a weeks holiday once a year.
They have missed out on a valuable learning experience that is now out of the reach of many young people.
I don’t want some bored unhappy unfulfilled young person being my plumber / sparky or whatever that is incredibly selfish
If he or she can get into university he doesn’t have to be a bricklayer and besides new techniques in building are fast making the bricklayers job obsolete .
Soon all houses will be using quicker methods walls can be poured in a couple of bourse by a machine
Nor do our prospective engineers all go and study arts .
They study engineering , the lack of medical staff is not because they are all studying arts it is because there are a shortage of places in medical schools.
Folks bandying personally unaudited statistics about
Floodlit cricket matches…I’m knackered the next day.
And I’m just spectating
Excessively hot summers
The realization.
The older I get the more I dislike the capitalist system that is designed to squeeze as much money from the population as possible.
The notion of yearly growth upon growth has more negatives than positives in my opinion.
To make more money many businesses have to cut back in certain areas.
Cut the wages bill by reducing the workforce or reducing the starting wage of new employees. Moving the business overseas to poorer countries with much lower wages.
Use tax loopholes to pay little to no tax.
Reduce the amount of product offered but keep the original price - shrinkflation.
Meat , i mainly eat Fish now .I would like to eat more vegeterian meals .
Saturday night repeats on the telly, and, being bothered about repeats on Saturday nights telly instead of wondering what events on the High Street on Saturday night might hold!!!
Nah ! Hot weather is worse. If it gets colder at least you CAN put on more clothes.
BUT if it gets hotter you CAN’T get more naked than naked,
.
I hate the cold it paralyses me I sit one inch from the wood burner !
Gimme sun heat all the time .
Just hang on in there Muddy, if what some of the scientists predict comes to pass you’ll not be disappointed
Climate…
As a boy at school the only time I heard ‘Climate’ mentioned was in the Geography lesson. Now, there is not a day goes by that you don’t hear the word on most adverts and the BBC news.
If you look at the definition of the word it states:-
Climate is the long-term weather pattern in a region, typically averaged over 30 years. More rigorously, it is the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time spanning from months to millions of years. Wikipedia
I would bet that if you read the definition when I were but a lad, it wouldn’t have contained “Typically averaged over 30 years” Climate is the mean average over a thousand years at least, otherwise you are talking about ‘Weather’…
But you are no longer a lad Foxy and things change especially climate ,
