Thinking about your ribs Jazzi, if you will forgive such a thing. I love cole slaw with ribs, I make my own using a Chinese cabbage which is more crisp than even a tight white cabbage. Just recently the slaw has had a lovely new potato salad to accompany it a bowl of each in the fridge goes with most lunches and dinners.
Had Chicken Thai Curry and Rice.
Tonight will be Ham Rolls.

Yippee!!! It’s Saturday - this means Pork & Apple Pasties for lunch!!! - note to self - must 'phone pie shop and reserve the pasties before he sells out.
We had Spicy Chicken in breadcrumbs with Hash Potatoes, Mushrooms & Beans.
Bit of an experiment attempted a vegetarian lasagne using sliced courgette instead of pasta. Actually turned out quite tasty.
Julie I have used leek instead of pasta , if you slice it sideway half way through you get sheets of leek it works well as it holds its shape well.
Well I was due to have chicken bits and salad but I forgot about the chicken bits being in the oven didn’t I. All that luvly meat turned to rock hard tooth breaking crunchy brown stone more or less. Bloody hell. What a waste
.
Tis old age that … buy your self a timer so the bell reminds you ;0)
That’s a great idea will try that next time, courgettes were lovely but didn’t hold their shape really so tasted lovely but didn’t look very good.
Yes, that is the answer. The cooker has a timer I think but I ain’t so clever at working how the damn thing works. Funny innit I can figure out how computers work but the damn cooker just annoys the hell out of me.
if like me you have a glut of courgetts at the moment , try grating them, squeeze all the juice out mix with a egg salt pepper and chilli if you like it and some flour , roll in to palm size balls and flatten them. shallow fry each side till crispy brown. serve with hummus or taziki or any home made chilli dip or salza. make great nibbles
Get a woman in to show you… beter still chain her to the cooker and she can make all your meals !!![]()
High on my list of priorities.
Microwave guy I have been for a long time but now I need to lose weight so chicken and the like cooked in the oven has thrown me off balance somewhat. Still it is just a matter of time before I figure the cooker controls out. I think it is down to sheer laziness on my part in that uptil now I haven’t paid any attention to the cooker and it’s fickle ways. Will have to now though. Steep learning curve but I am up forrit I think.
if its a tipical clock looking timer , just turn the hand forward to the 10-past position and it should start ticking then go off in 10 mins practise now before you cook some thing …
Im a aga girl so dont have suxh luxuries on my cooker:lol:
Indeed I will. Hopefully I can hear it from the other room where I mess about on the internet a lot. Once I get on the internet I forget nearly everything.
Bugger. Just took a good look at the cooker and there ain’t a timer on it as far as I can see. Will have to buy one by the looks of it.
Durrrr… set the timer on your computer … then you will hear it and its free
if you dont have one try here
I have an alarm watch … but for normal timing, I use a freebie kitchen timer which I can put in my pocket/carry around the house
It does hours and minutes
Bless! I’ve never used a timer for cooking so I guess I must use gut instinct.
Well, I fancied making my crispy lamb pie on Saturday until I realised I didn’t have any lamb mince. Drat and double drat. However, I cobbled together a meal of a mini steak which I slightly introduced to some butter in a pan, and some vine tomatoes and mushrooms which I cooked in my halogen oven, along with a couple of little roasted potatoes and some extremely hot pepper sauce. Most tasteyful! ![]()
Like you Mollie I don’t use a timer, in fact I don’t have one on my cooker. I use instinct, my sense of smell and my watch. I know what takes 30 minutes to cook, I know what takes an hour or more and check when I put it in the oven and rughly what time to take it out. Have made very few mistakes and my sense of smell is keen enough to know when things are done. ‘Dragon’ always had a saying, “when it’s brown its done, when its black it’s black it’s buggered up!!!”
