What a job the police do

I was watching one of these traffic programs on the english tv and the increase in traffic crimes,

We’ve talked about crime in the uk a few times on the forum and we see the risk these Police traffic offices go through trying to stop these mad drivers,
I wonder how many Police Offices call it a day after they have risked their lives trying to put a stop to these drivers and then see the sentences given out by the courts, ie never passed any driving test / No insurance / MOT / Car taken without owners concent, / Over drink limit, /Drugs
And then the court gives out suspended Ban / They did-nt have any Licence anyway,
If these people had the right to drive any car for ever taken off them it just may make these people think twiice

Ive known a man who is a british police man for 20 years + . As a youngster he always wanted to be a policeman. I speak with his mum now and again and always ask after him . Also to say thankyou for his service , so badly needed . She tells me its changed him so much and he is longing to reach 55 when he can retire with his pension .

I think our police do a wonderful job they are so disrespected and abused . The sentences often dont match the crime and i’m sure they dont feel supported by the courts . I wouldnt want my grankids to be police .

Are there any retired british police on here , if so what are your thoughts ?

Well said susan,m

The police are stretched far too thinly these days. The population has exploded and the number of vehicles on the roads has increased exponentially but the police numbers have not increased in proportion, and the number of crimes that are possible have gone off the scale.
However, a policeman should not worry about the sentence the offender gets, that’s not his job.
His job is to keep the general public safe and report the crime and take the offender off the streets if necessary.
It’s a bit like weeding the garden…You pull up a weed and ten others grow in it’s place.

But you can tell the good gardener (the one who hoe’s on a reular basis and keeps the weeds at bay,

Same goe’s for the policing and dealing with those who are caught time & time again ,
If you use the full strength of putting these people away from the area’s “ie inside a prison” And make a prison a place you’d never want to return to,
No snooker tables,/ No tv’s and no meeting other con’s on the Landings ,
Then & only then will you be able to say the system is working, But if these people just think the Laws are there to be broken ? Well what do you exspect ? Like the keen gardener uses his hoe and finds its a lot cheaper than a once in a while job, he likes what he see’s and proud of it,

That’s not the police’s job though Daniel. The police just take them off the street and gather evidence so they can face trial.
The police don’t make the laws, they just uphold them.
We are wandering into the political arena concerning crime and punishment.
‘The gardener didn’t make the hoe, he just uses it to best effect’

Greetings OldGreyFox,
Hope your well,
I have never said it was the police’s job to give out punishment’s
So lets get one thing right, I am all for peace perfect peace, I do agree everyone should be able to feel free to walk in a park, / down a street without being kicked to death or have your throat cut open until your dead,
Today’s New’s is two men killed a youth by hit & run,
The youth is dead and these two men have been arrested, The Police work done,
Now it’s the courts job to sentence these two men, Lets see what they feel is just for the crime they have done?
If convicted of such evil crimes then as far as Im concerned you should if not have your life taken away, Then you are put away in a prison, you should suffer for the rest of your life,

Now who ever makes the Law’s and is responsible for making them should have a look at just what the prisons etc are offering not only these evil "Convicted & found guilty person’s but ask why should they be housed & fed at the tax payers exspence? And have every thing given and for what ?

Is it a
good thing to know no matter what evil these people do they will not pay with their lives being taken But they’re a burden on every good persons life,
And for what?

What is the powers to be explanation and reason for one letting these people walk the streets ?

At least if a person is found to be Mental and put into a mental care centre they are their until it is found they will not be a threat to the rest of the human race, they’re not given a release date,

These prison officers who have been attacked in the very prison’s they’re trying to govern can tell you the prisoners who continue to offend when serving time are not fit to be allowed out,
Do the people who make these time to be served have any idea whats going on?
Do they ever ask the the people doing the job their thoughts on these matters?

I’d a friend from school who was a policeman, now retired. After a few years in the force he got his dream and trained to be a motorcycle cop. Loved it. But he told me that the moments of excitement or stress are between extended periods of not much going on at all. One day he and his colleague were in town, not much going on at all, when over the radio he gets a request to help an ambulance race through the centre of town to the hospital. He and his colleague are immediately on it - taking turns to sweep ahead and stop the traffic at junctions so the ambulance can get through quickly and safely. So my friend is there at this junction, stopping irritated drivers, watching for idiots not stopping and letting the ambulance race. Job done for that junction, he jumps back on this bike and accelerates off. To find the ambulance had immediately had to stop because of a dumb car in the way. But he is going to fast already and smacks right into the back of the ambulance. Broken wrist, broken ankle and a bit of a mess. Luckily there is an ambulance right there and already on the way to the hospital…
Unlike many police that I’ve met, my friend had a sense of humour and was self-depreciating enough to tell the story…

Nice to read such a true to life story,
Just ask yourselves, what would be like without the Police force,

They are the worlds best when knockiing on your door to tell your family member is in hospital etc,

But when they’re doing their job of giving out speeding tickets they’re the worlds worst,
