Hippie girls were very interesting.Free love and all that sort of thing.
Never been one of those but in any culture or system most young people want to be given credibility, be it street cred or other. They see no alternative to being accepted by a peer group which is why they behave and dress the way it is expected.
For us the “uniform” was a washed out Levi’s and a US army parka or field jacket. The statement was so clear and unambiguous so that nothing else was needed.

'Never enough money to to be a Mod or a Rocker, I was the oldest,so had to help with the family budget, Monday to Friday, school to loading shelves in a Supermarket, fishing and shooting rabbits and pigeons at weekends.
Always a very strict school, hair could not be so long that it touched your shirt collar
Some arsey Cops, so no gun cases on show, they had to be in the Rod Cases when inTown or on the bus.

My late husband was a teddy boy when I first met him, he & his mates used to hang out in the local Wimpy bar, one evening their ring leader ordered 20 wimpy burgers, then said they weren’t his they were the rival gangs, also in the cafe, that started a fight with the rival gang, my OH tried to stop it, manager called the police & though not involved my OH got arrested as well. they were all banned from the cafe, for life, both gangs. I only found this out when I started going out with him & suggested we went in the Wimpy for lunch.

I stumbled upon this today while sorting through some old paperwork, okay, granted, not the clearest of pictures. I’m pretty sure it was taken on a very cheap 110 format camera.
Many moons ago we used to hang out in the polytechnic bar in Bolsover Street Central London.
Scottish Drew, Andy Lealand of The Partisans, Rob (Spike) Harrington also of The Partisans, Simon and Steve Prescott of The Insane. Rob and Andy are still performing with the band!
It almost seems like yesterday - not!

I would have been in the mosh pit at The 100 Club in Oxford Street … about forty three years ago!
But no d00d , I haven’t seen the boys live since then, who knows, I might make it to a gig!
