Mod or a Rocker or a Teddy Boy … Punk …Goth?
Hell’s Angel!
I never bothered with any of them … I couldn’t understand why they would all want to look the same.
Teddy Boys were rather smart.

None, never really needed to identify with any popular cult, had enough going on without having to worry about identity ![]()
Our little gang had motor bikes but I wouldn’t call us rockers.
There were confrontations with mods at Barry Island a near sea side place but we avoided all that.
You can’t go through life limiting the market ![]()
Yes, the same for me. I was into tractors and cars even I was quite a young age - we lived on a farm so I could do that. That said, I found an old motor bike in a shed, a 1935 Matchless 350cc. Just a bit of fun.
There was a time when I was seriously into motorbikes, heavy metal etc. But I grew out of it after a while and was into cars for quite some time.
What kind of cars did you like ?
Only the ones I could afford. ![]()
I had four cars in total, A Fiat Mirafiori, which literally fell apart with rust. A Ford Encore, A beat up old Fiesta and the (then) love of my life - a 2L Ford Capri, which I rebuilt over time, both mechanically and electrically and had all sorts done to it. But the gearbox eventually failed and it I had to call defeat and say goodbye to it. Besides, I started driving company cars and it wasn’t worth keeping it on the road.
Yes, I also had company cars but before that (a long time ago) I had a Triumph 2500 TC, not the fuel injection.
Honda 50 any good Morty?
I bought a brand spanking new one to go to work on and used to hang around with a small group of lads with an assortment of bikes. I think most of the gangs were mainly in and around the big towns and cities so never really saw much agro between rival gangs.
I did hundreds of miles on the Honda with a couple of mates on similar bikes, I also used used to help out this older bloke who mended motor bikes, he had a Velocet and offered to sell me it for £100 but my Dad stepped in and offered to buy me a motor car. He thought I would kill myself on a motorbike and we bought a mini van, the first of many mini’s.
There was never a weekend went by that I didn’t take an engine out of my, and friends broken down mini’s. Clutches, big ends, piston rings, gearboxes, nothing was too big a job and I was in heaven faffing about with a ball race or oil seal…
I liked my cars, I had a Lancia Fulvia, Dolomite Sprint but my favorite was the Toyota Celica similar to this one

There are some well off blokes on here, all my cars were bought for 50 quid and turned into reliable work vehicles, but fast.
Yep, punk, indie! Growing up in London’s West End was fertile ground. The Marquee and 100 club just for starters! Loads of record shops in Oxford Street and the surrounding area, could get a bit nasty at times!
No I was none of them, I was too young. But I have 3 older sisters 1 was a Mod Girl and 1 was a Rocker Girl. The 3rd one was like me, a book worm. ![]()

Hippie girls were very interesting.Free love and all that sort of thing.
Never been one of those but in any culture or system most young people want to be given credibility, be it street cred or other. They see no alternative to being accepted by a peer group which is why they behave and dress the way it is expected.
For us the “uniform” was a washed out Levi’s and a US army parka or field jacket. The statement was so clear and unambiguous so that nothing else was needed.
Hippie Girls and Nature Boys, would you adam’n’eve it ![]()
I dabbled in Young Fogeyism before coming of age.
Did you find out a little knowledge was a dangerous thing?
You’re only young once.
