Walking around a once vibrant part of town Northbridge

Northbridge, other side of the tracks from Perth.
Still called the entertainment precinct but my walk along the length of James Street unveiled about 30% of the businesses shuttered and closed.
As with Perth CBD, pedestrian traffic was at a minimum, 11am Wednesday.

Online shopping and out of town shopping centres as killed a lot
of in Town shops off . Whether its the Town Rates the owners cannot afford or lack of business im not sure …

We use to have 2 Markets one was outdoors , now the last market is in closure mode although some traders are fighting the closure.

Its a shame because Towns will become Ghost Towns , having said that Eating out places seem to be flourishing .

If shops don’t have the goods available to see/handle or check physically then there is no alternative. They are doing themselves out of business not the customer

My town is full of Eateries and Boozeries … but not much to actually shop in. In the last year a eco-friendly refill shop has opened … a shushi lounge, a tailors and two barbers and two vape shops.
Oddly, the nail bars and pooch parlours are closing down

Doncaster is turning into a ghost town with lots of properties either closed or up for sale.
M&S have just closed their town centre store and moved 5 mile out of town to a retail site, that is the last of the old department stores like Debenhams, House of Fraser, C&A, and British Home Stores. Even WH Smiths has just closed up and left the Frenchgate shopping mall, leaving the Post Office to find a new home.
The only biggish shops left are Primark and Sports Direct. Still a few banks Santander and Lloyds, but mainly Turkish barbers and greasy spoon cafe’s. It’s rare to hear English spoken while walking around town, and lots of scallies hanging around.

It’s certainly all ripping the heart out of smaller towns and even a once vibrant shopping large town near me is now empty, boarded up and barren and the council haven’t a clue what to do. There’s just no sign of any new initiative and investment.

The squatters must be spoilt for choice, cos heaven help us we seem to have an ever increasing population of homeless and good luck to them. They need it.
I can’t recall any goverment who’s ever tried to do anything for them.
