Was there an alternative , the 148 who have no confidence in the PM should now do the honourable thing and apply to the Chiltern 100’s.

MP says he backed PM after discussing ‘fair funding’ for his area
Although last night’s ballot was secret, some MPs are explaining their votes to constituents, including Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely - who says he discussed a “fair funding package” for his local council before the vote.
Seely says he was assured that ministers will look again at funding for the Isle of Wight Council ahead of the review of local government finance.
He says: “I note that the PM is the only one ever to promise an improved funding settlement for the island, and as such, and on balance, I would rather continue to focus on getting him to deliver on this commitment than start afresh with a PM who has not made, or may not offer to make, any such offer.”
Bribery … or just empty promises from BJ …
Yeah just watch the media try and bend this into Johnson losing.
Cake anyone ?
Starmer only had 41% support from his MPs when he was voted in.
Just saying …
In The Times, Tobias Ellwood (chairman of the defence select committee) said that the 1922 Committee was looking at changing the rules which prevent another challenge happening within a year. So another challenge could be done in 6 months.
- I just want to know why everyone keeps changing the rules? What’s the point of having structures in place if you can just change them to suit yourself?
Lib dems are calling for a vote of no confidence today.
Watch the conservatives unite all of a sudden
What astounds me is that the media try to sway other people’s opinion to fit theirs ! The problem is that the media know nothing more than anybody else so, because everybody is scared of the high cost of living, people are prepared to accept criticism of the PM.
Boris may have broken his own rules, but so did half the population during Covid. They got away with it because nobody was watching them, but if it is the PM all members of other parties see it as a chance of them rising to the rank of PM.
Boris isn’t the best PM , in my opinion, but god help us if any other party leader gets in!
Dunno … it all seems dictatorial to me …
BIB I don’t follow that logic …
(1) DID
(2) is that verifiable or just a wild guess?
(3) Police in England and Wales have processed a total of 117,213 fixed penalty notices for breaches of Coronavirus restrictions up to 20 June 2021.
(4) I don’t follow that logic …
Wallace and Gromit
I don’t follow you logic either, but I am pleased to say that following my own opinions has served me well… and I base them on what I know, not wild guesses.
Perhaps we will just have to agree to differ !
Rebel Tory MPs are betting that Boris Johnson will “blow himself up” with further scandals over the summer so that the rules protecting him from another confidence vote can be changed to force him from office.
Elections to the committee’s executive are expected to take place in the coming weeks and will be viewed by some as a de facto vote on whether to take such a step.
Given that the committee’s officers are made up mostly of MPs who are believed to want Johnson gone – including Graham Brady, William Wragg, Nusrat Ghani and Geoffrey Clifton-Brown – rebels said their re-election would be likely to mean Johnson could face another confidence vote before next June.
The executive is able to change the rules regarding such contests by a majority vote and does not require the support of the whole parliamentary party.
Tory rebels admitted they had “pressed the nuclear button” with Monday’s vote and been left with few further options to help them pile pressure on Johnson. Plans are being drawn up for a “vote strike” to paralyse the government’s legislative agenda if necessary.
*Asked about the prospect on Times Radio, Sir Graham said: 'It’s not something that we as an executive have discussed at all in this parliament. *
*'There was a point in the previous parliament when those discussions took place at length, we ended up without changing the rule. *
*'Obviously, I’ve reflected quite a lot on this, because of the amount of speculation has been in the media. *
'Of course, it is technically possible that laws can be changed in the future. And it’s possible that rules can be changed in the future.
‘But I think it’s important we say the rule that is in place, and is likely to remain in place is that there is a year’s period of grace following a confidence vote.’
I expect when something even nastier and more crooked about him gets exposed, (and it is “when” and not “if”) there will be a call to change the law to so they can get rid
He’s a morass of lies, dirty dealings and deceit so surely they’d got to be a limit to what his party and the Johnson Fangirls/boys will tolerate?
We’ve just got to hope he doesn’t do to harm to our country and people that can’t be undone as he clings on to power with his fingernails and tries to buy popularity with more lies
His campaign to dole out dosh and deals to his chums and use the Ukrainian war to boost his ego could well lead to social unrest and a Third World War
Keeping an amoral man as PM is a dangerous game
History can provide comfort to Johnson. In 1931 Stanley Baldwin, confronted by internal dissent and a hostile press campaign, was on the verge of resignation as Tory leader, only to change his mind and fight on. He did not eventually bow out until 1937, having served a third spell as Prime Minister.
The greatest of them all, Winston Churchill, survived two fraught confidence votes in the Commons during 1942 when the war was going badly. He only left Downing Street for the last time in 1955.
I would say that Thatcher was best of all.
BJ would like to be a Churchill but he patently isn’t.
While Brady said it was unlikely the rules would be changed to allow another no confidence vote in Johnson before next summer, he left the door open to the possibility.
He said that after Theresa May won a no-confidence vote launched against her by a bigger margin, the committee did consider changing the rules but eventually decided against doing so.
Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer choice …
