It was about time I got a UV(ultra violet) lens filter for my recently bought Tamron lens.
THe prices range from £10 to £100 for the same size and I don’t know exactly why. ok Quality yes but by that amount no. Most get one to use as a lens protector but its real use does make a difference to a photograph by cutting out part of the light spectrum. the amount does depend of whattygou pay but most seem to be happy with the £20 to£40 price range which I did the same
Do you live near water, RS? That’s a good way of testing filters. I agree bright sunshine highlights the difference - with grey concrete, its not that obvious. Plus I don’t have a great screen anyway, so there’s that.
Which are you referring to?UV (ultra violet) filters or do you mean polarizing filters.
I must admit I can see bugger all difference between the two photos.
When I had an SLR I kept a UV filter on just to protect the lense(s) but modern compact and video camera lens retract behind a cover when not in use. Not only that cameras are so cheap nowadays that protection really isn’t that important for something that so rarely happens anyway.
Oops, yes, I was thinking of polarizing filters Apologies Its been ages since I messed about with a camera
I am not surprised Bruce .Direct from the memory card to my 4k monitor there is a difference but on the internet the degrading of photos may not show up as well. As I said I use gthem for lens protection/ When lenses cost £1000+ as mine do new they are better with some protection
this Nikkon 70-200mm lens in the forground will set you back about £1300
the one behind Tamron 24-70mm £1150
this nikon 80-400mm monster New nearly £2000 (all quotes from main dealers)
so as you can see now the value of having a filter
Yeah that lens pisses me off it priced high because they know it’s a necessary focal length. It’s always been an overpriced IMHO lens.
Same Real.
Quite understand why.But if you saw on my computer screen and the difference pointed out
deleted not good photo from small compact camera of my camera gear
Don’t you wish you had a decent phone?
I don’t even have a mobile phone so wouldn’t know a decent one from a rubbish one. The compact i was using was a Nikon L26 I keep for checking the roof gutter
Think of it like camera lenses, generally speaking the more you pay the better the camera is in the phone (they all make phone calls)
look at YouTube, I would estimate that a large proportion of people at the bottom of Youtube use a phone rather than a camera and frankly there is little visible difference other than the artistic skills of the operator. It is undoubtedly true that there are even fewer using a camcorder rather than a DSLR.
BTW we are eagerly awaiting your first vlog using your recently constructed selfie stick.
but who am I going to call? just today I got a christmas card saying my Cousin-- in law died of covid last Feb which I didn’t know about until today. He was the one that got us on the housing ladder. Wish the family had informed us back then. I have had so many I know/ knew pass away recently contacts are now few so no need for a mobile phone
That is very sad, but if you have a landline why not replace it with a mobile phone? They are cheaper and well… mobile. Get your wife one while you are at it, then you can ring her when you lose her at the shopping mall.
Me shopping? don’t be silly, I can’t tell the different between a cucumber and a sausage apart from one you cook the other you don’t. Her in a shopping mall? what with her purse harder to get into than Fort Knox ,even The Egyptian moths have not got out of it yet.
Joking apart our landline does the internet as well and this suits us. Sue has a mobile anyway.
One thing I don’t want to be caught doing is the mobile phone walk. That is walking around in circles looking for ants on the ground, then bumping into lamp posts or other people
Not sure about mobile phones being cheaper either very hard to find out how much one pays a month
found this Quote " What is the average mobile phone bill in the UK? last year 2020
Based on the average UK mobile phone bill of £46.50 a month (according to Ofcom, the regulator), thess translates into increases of around £2.10 or £0.65p respectively. A spokesperson for the Three network said: “Like other mobile network providers, our pay-monthly plans are subject to an annual price increase.19 Feb 2021" unquote.
this is more than I pay for my landline
well I been and done it. What? an 82mm UV filter for the Tamron 24-70mm G2 lens. Yes me the great spender this time £22 on a Hoya filter . Not this time so much for the UV bit more to protect the front lens glass.
Better a damage £22 filter than an £800 lens and does not deterioate the image either.
