"The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19. We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk. I don’t use credit cards but I know some of you do so thought this might be useful.
Should we make any changes related to Visa credit cards, we will give you advance notice. Until then, you can continue to use Visa credit cards, debit cards, Mastercard, American Express, and Eurocard as you do today."
At first they said they were switching to their Amazon Mastercard for all payments. I guess a lot of people have complained about that. It’s actually blackmailing customers into getting their card. If they did that, I would stop buying from them & seems a lot of others would too. Guess they are having a rethink.
Same here. I just read this in an email from Amazon this morning and told Marge. Her response: “I told you!” and, yes, she was sure they’d back down, and they did - at the last minute!
However, we have since obtained a new Mastercard credit card, but from M&S Bank not Amazon. Consequently, I intend to continue to use my Visa credit card just to annoy the greedy people at Amazon!
I doubt it Mups. Every one is leaning toward crypto currency. Walmart is supposed to be making it’s own. I don’t use PayPal, but I have found myself at a loss, especially with overseas websites when ordering they only take PayPal or Bitcoin.
BitCoin is an internet currency, Susan, and 1 Bitcoin is worth over £31, 000 at present. You can buy Bitcoin at specialist machines, and you can change BitCoin to your own currency. It can be used to buy things (not bread and milk at your local shop, quite yet though) and people who buy it, usually just buy a percentage of 1 BitCoin as its so expensive. Its value fluctuates on a daily basis, but many people see it as a good investment.
I had to look up NFTs Non-fungible tokens or NFTs are cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique identification codes and metadata that distinguish them from each other. Unlike cryptocurrencies, they cannot be traded or exchanged at equivalency.
Well that is so interesting! Imagine Walmart getting in on this…not the first place I would have thought would make the change, but its a popular place I suppose.
Its hard to imagine People of Walmart using it though
I think the day is rapidly coming when the only “Paper or folding” money you will see will be if you frame some and put it on a wall. We are quickly becoming a cashless society. Right now most adults don’t have a “bill” in their wallet, but they all have debit cards. Some of us old timers still carry emergency cash. I am one of them.
Thanks Danny. As I just sasid to Susan, I really, really don’t like being forced into all this new ideas. Todays 15 yr olds will grow up with it, be we didn’t, and I really struggle sometimes.
You had me wondering there, Wishbone, so I just looked up my PayPal account, and I think you may be right, because nothing I’ve bought via P/P was purchased from Amazon.
