Up The Garden Path

Once again Dex, I think you are correct, I will carry on with the sub-base for the slabs and give that area a wide berth for a while.

Sensible indeed. You’ve got plenty to get on with anyway and the fencing can be done after any dusty stuff.

Had to go to Whitchurch today so ain’t had much time, the step down on the timber from the slab is 50mm, 12mm for the mortar bed and 38mm for the paving slabs, the concrete sub base will be 50-60mm thick.

Angle of drainoff?

Zero Dex, we live at the top of a hill.

Line post relocated the new lawn level will cover the concrete, and the sub-base started, just cordoned it off to stop the dog leaving her mark.

Ready to load, tip, mix, pour and level in the morning.

Did you have fun getting that washing line post base out?

Not really, I thought about the possibility of gaining a hernia and having to distance in a Hospital situation.:frowning:

Bingo, that’s four jumbo bags of ballast of ballast and about 20 bags of cement. The shed came this morning, in two manageable box’s, so off on a slab matching trip in an hour or so.

The 10ft X 8ft shed is in these two boxes, they weigh a tonne, the courier left the box on the left the other way up, against the arrows, have to wait till assembly to see if all is Ok.

Probably OK. The preferred way of storing is usually when stacking multiple units on pallets and shelves.

Slow death by infinite self-tappers and nuts and bolts will no doubt follow soon.

I read that somewhere Dex, found a good match for the slabs (Light Grey) only trouble is the existing ones are 38mm thick, the ones today are 32mm, so, I will have to mix marginally more mortar, on the positive side, they are 25% lighter so I may get them in the car and save a delivery charge.

That’s something I suppose. Costs them less to make, costs you the same or more to buy, and costs you more in terms of mortar, to lay.

What you might find weird is that the new 450mm isn’t quite the same as the old 450mm

Oddly the above statement I have found true the newer slabs for my front garden identical supplier name type but not 450mmm more 440mm ish so my plan of mix and match old and new fell away.

Hello Kazz, I am going to buy three of these slabs today and see how they refer, before committing to buying the lot. Set the second fence post today so will pick up some 25X25mm timber at the same time to make the posts slotted.

I think the search goes on.

Have you tried karchering the existing ones?

TBH Dex these slabs were probably made by a one man band with the moulds that can be generally purchased, the amount of concrete dye being questionable. They have faded badly, so I think I will use the slab type on the patio as these are still generally available, and will sort of look intentional.
