UK heatwave: Temperatures rise to 31.8C and could climb further

I was trying to find the hiding monkey face but it kept on giving me the scream face :joy:

I expect I will be staying indoors with the fans on all day, Pixie

No wonder! I’m in the house just now, with the blinds down and the windows closed. I don’t have fans at the moment, so it’s the next best thing (so the bbc tells me!) My poor little dog is panting a bit too :dog:

Next Monday in the North-West - 27° … :sun_with_face:

Bearable … :sunglasses:

Well…bearable you say? I remember last year when it hit 26 degrees around 4pm one day. I could hardly breathe! (A tad dramatic perhaps, but it was a real struggle to even be bothered moving to get some juice)

A big fuss about nothing!

We intend to move to Scotland next year, the boot might be on the other foot, looking forward to it apart from the midges.

It’s a comfortable 18c at the moment here on the south coast today

Interesting…whereabouts? Bring a hairnet, and tights for pulling over your face. Don’t live anywhere near water or trees. Don’t go out after 4pm. Bring wellies, umbrellas, sunglasses and a waterproof jacket. :+1: Oh and if you do get bitten alive, use the Avon stuff…

A fan hack. Hang a wet towel behind a fan, ideally with one end of the towel in a washing up bowl with some water in it to keep the towel damp. Evaporation of water as a result of the fan substantially reduces the temperature of the air from the fan (for a liquid to evaporate draws heat from the environment)

Oooh thats a good idea! :+1: I did read that its good to have a fan by a window to draw in the air, but if its hotter outside, it obviously aint going to work. Its more the dog I worry about than me, mind you. I’m waiting for a fan to arrive, so I’ll put in on the floor and do your towel trick.

Glasgow, around the Bearsden area, possibly Milngavie.

Interesting…

It really does work.

I’m sure it does, and I shall update this thread with the results!

Is it?

It’s a nice area, that side of Glasgow. I used to know a few people there when I worked at that end of the city.

17 degrees with me…shall I waft you down some cool air? :joy:

Also - how do you get the little “degree” circle? If I do it, it just looks like 17oC

Copy it from someone else:

17°C

Yes please, I would be most grateful for a waft or two of your cool air, Pixie! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Regarding your ° question, I am on my iPad at the moment and to get the degree sign, I hold down the 0 and drag it up then let go …… and this ° is the result. :slightly_smiling_face:
