UK election - its all about what the opposition will look like

I think Starmer should be sending big thanks you to Bojo and Truss. They wouldn’t have done it without their help.

This anomaly between overall votes and seats won is hugely distorting the result. The parliament we now have does not represent how the country voted. The low turnout an indication that a single vote has no value, so people don’t bother.

Under proportional representation, parties are allotted a number of seats in line with the proportion of the vote they won.

There are quite a few big political names that will not be in the Commons to be part of the opposition. Truss. Coffey, Rees-Mogg, Mordaunt, Gullis, Mercer, Buckland, Fabricant, Baker, Shapps, Chalk and more. Some managed to trash massive majorities in what are normally considered safe seats to not get re-elected. Others fell as the right wing vote was split by Reform. What a disaster for the Tories, it will be months if not years before they can become an effective opposition.

We’ll just have to see what kind of a cock up Starmer makes of things, but I doubt he’ll be ringing me up for advice any time soon so I’ll let him get on with it…Stand by for a doubling of the national debt…And twenty quid a week off your pensions…Somebody’s got to pay for all the borrowing…
What was it Brown said as he left his post…There’s nowt’ left in the kitty…

Decades, unless they plan to form a coalition. Another sojourn in the political wilderness because they never learn. Déjà vu.

I see that Libs got 12% of the vote and 71 seats.

Reform got 14% of the vote and 5 seats.

The last post is kind of misleading.
I can’t find the number of registered voter, number of voters that voted. Does that mean that the 80% includes the ones that did not vote or only of the ones that voted.

The 80% includes those who didn’t vote at all. The turnout for voting was 60%.

Correction, LibDems won 72 seats which surely is the result we’d want rather than the other way round?

Plan. target local and win. Libdem result.
Go on telly a lot, Farage plan, effectively lost and hugely diluted the Tory vote. Reform fail.

Do hope someone recorded this press meeting. Serve the country the man says; I don’t believe you Mr. Starmer.

Rubbish but entitled to your opinion. Tantrum tactical voting, plus a defective voting system. Reform did well considering the chaos this election campaign has been.

UK cannot be called a democracy, unless or until FPTP is scrapped.
United States a democratic republic, anyone prefer UK to take this direction.

If this is unclear to the returning officer, simply people are not happy with FPTP however they choose to spoil their paper; should be obvious. Change is a must to make voting fair.

We are all doomed. Some are calling it a landslide victory but 2 out of 3 people did not vote Labour.

That’s why your voting system is quite absurd and unfair.

The youngest Labour MP so full of himself.

Yet to face a life experience that may change his.

A first past the post system only rewards the winner.
You may think it is unfair and absurd but it’s the on we’ve always had and there’s never been any real will to change it.

The impetus for change from FPTP is increasing, failure of governments led by two floundering political parties the only reason. Both have done their worst, maintaining the status quo is not an option. Resistance to progress is futile as more realise UK voting system really only benefits the wealthy. Think how much better things could be.
