There is a family group of magpies in my area. One male, two females, two fledgelings and a hatchling.
This is the first time the fledgeling have visited me without a parent.
Rather special video to have the two together, drinking and bathing.
The larger of the two is approximately 2 weeks older?
The larger one is about 8 weeks old and the smaller of the two about 6 weeks old.
Unfortunately I never spoke loud enough for subtitles to be added.
Time for me to replace the lost video recorder so I can do my wildlife videos justice.
Just a suggestion, an extrnl microphone would eliminate that noise the camera is making
I am going to buy a new video camera with a few bells and whistles. ![]()
Don’t bloody lose it Bret! ![]()

I will need to be super vigilant. Maybe even have a note stuck on my vehicle steering wheel.
“Have you got the video camera”?
Sounds like a plan! ![]()

That was lovely … they certainly liked their bath didn’t they.
Great to watch
Thank you!
First bath in the “Baby Bath”.
I am sure it will not be very long before they advance to the “Adult Bath”. ![]()

can I be allowed to make suggestions re camcorders please.
there are two types consumer and professional and there is one hell of a lot of difference. Consumer types are very basic,I had the Sony AX50 and a load of BS about image stablisation, my advice would be keep well away from
The make to go for is Panasonic and the pro series. if you can go find a good used HC X1500 (mine) or the newer Panasonic HC-X1200E 4K Camcorder - to the HC-X1600E depending on your finances of course. If going for used ask about the run time, should give an indication of usage
to give some idea of what the HC-X1500 now the 1600 version this is what you get

Ok yes a hell of a lot in it and takes time to learn about starting off in Auto mode is a good start.
If I remember Bruce went for a Panasonic camcorder as well.
So what about stills with a camcorder? yes definately in thumbnail mode ( I can talk you through that) capture an individual frame from a vid clip.
my HC-X1500 with extra handle and LED light
one reason why I make this suggestion is not only dual card slots but the ability to do this
hand held
if you have any questions etc possible one of us can help
going on for that that might be of some interest??? what i have in the view if the camcorder.
for outdoor Manrfotto Befreelive tripodwith ths MVH400AH head. the one to go for is this with the ball adjustment built in
light weight ideal for video work
on he handle a rocker switch for stop/start/zoom (make things a lot easier
on the side a blue tooth dongle so with bluetooth headphones I am not tethered to anything and do my own sound check
if you can gett hole of one with the hadle added I use an Azden smx-30v microphone. This can do anything from full stereo to directional by the turn of a dial . the handle also allows for XLR connection . so on the handle side I can individually still adjust either of the two built in Azden mics
