The cable news network made the announcement on Monday morning. The statement reads as follows:
âFox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.
Mr. Carlsonâs last program was Friday, April 21. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 pm ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.â
There was zero indication of Carlsonâs exit as recently as Friday evening, when at the close of what would be his final episode he said to viewers a typical, âWeâll be back on Monday.â In fact, as of this morning there were still promos running for Carlsonâs planned interview with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Ms. Grossberg also said in her lawsuit that after she was coerced by Foxâs lawyers into providing a misleading deposition in a recent defamation case brought by Dominion Voting Systems and defending an offensive text from Mr. Carlson, his producers emailed the rest of the staff in recognition of âAbby Dayâ and suggested ordering a staff lunch to celebrate.
Fox has disputed Ms. Grossbergâs claims, and Mr. Carlson hasnât said anything publicly about the case.
In an odd twist, Don Lemon, a major anchor on CNN, was terminated from CNN on the same day as Tucker Carlson, with no explanation from the network but it looks like it might be for the same thing - misogynistic treatment of women.

News outlets have reported that Carlson was fired on the personal order of Fox owner Rupert Murdoch for, among other things, using vulgar language to describe a female executive.
On Wednesday, Carlson shared a cryptic two-minute video on his Twitter account that did not explain his exit, but offered sweeping complaints about the state of American discourse. He said what he noticed âwhen you step away from the noise for a few days,â is how nice some people are.
âThe other thing you notice when you take a little time off is how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are,â he added. âTheyâre completely irrelevant. They mean nothing. In five years we wonât even remember we heard them. Trust me, as somebody who participated.â

To be fair, Carlsonâs departure was completely unexpected while Bidenâs announcement was totally expected.
A short video message posted online by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson following his ouster from the network had racked up more than 57 million views on Twitter as of Thursday afternoon.
Carlsonâs cryptic two-minute message was posted around 8 p.m. Wednesday. He did not directly address his sudden departure from the network or plans for the future.

Ratings at Fox News on Tucker Carlsonâs time slot have been down substantially. But Fox News has survived and even thrived after controversial firings so it could happen again.
There are reports that the other hosts at Fox News are afraid of being fired, but Iâm not sure anyone cares enough to fire one of them.

Do you think Tucker Carlson should be silenced and not allowed to have his own show ? Is that what you mean ?
lol I personally donât care what he does. But it looks like he signed a non-compete contract that heâs violating. The time to contest a binding non-compete clause is when you sign it, which he did in 2021. Fox News will probably be suing him on that.
