Here’s a Garderobe for you … ‘it’ simply dropped all the way down to the ground below.

Doing crosswords is a favorite passion of mine. I get obsessed with finishing one once I start it, but I don’t torture myself with the most challenging of puzzles. Neither do I like the ones that are “quick and fill in the squares”…

A person can learn a lot from doing them. Here is a prime example, thanks!

When I was working I used to do the Sydney Morning Herald cryptic crossword every day, it was a competition between workmates as to who could complete it quicker. It was very interesting and a lot of fun.

Unfortunately the Friday cryptic was set by David Astle and I was lucky if I could get half a dozen words whereas the rest of the week we usually finished or got within one or two words. His brain works differently to normal people.

The trouble with cryptic crosswords is that they spoil you for ordinary crosswords, you tend to look too deeply into the clue.

I stopped doing the crossword when the paper went from a broadsheet to a tabloid and I stopped buying it.

Every day I have a go at the cryptic crossword in The Telegraph. I have come to recognise the styles of the different compilers over time. I have yet to complete the Wednesday one - I make a start but some of the clues are over-cryptic for my poor brain to work out. On the other days I have had some success in completing the crossword and then sometimes I am stumped by the last two or three clues.

I do the Daily Mail Cryptic one. Never ever finished it. Really tempted to google clues for answers, but resist the temptation. If I do half of it, I’m chuffed to bits with myself. :innocent:
