I have thought about this a lot, Annie. There is a balance needed between acting quickly to send the message that illegal behavior will no longer be tolerated and making sure that we aren’t inciting further trouble. The history books are full of governments getting out of hand when rounding up suspected insurgencies and losing sight of the mission.
When my dad was an aviator, he said that in the case of an in-flight emergency, he was rigorously taught to, “Wind your watch, aviate, communicate, navigate.”
We most definitely need to wind our watches over here. I think that is why the FBI is taking the longest to investigate the most serious of the Capitol crimes. Thinking about the way we are addressing each other on political matters, in the same way would speak with a hormonal teenager, 
would ago a long way in cooling the political temperature. Unfortunately, having dedicated news programming that isn’t chock full of opining and radical Congressmen who need to check their language are the most difficult to convince.
I don’t love trump at all. I don’t like how he behaves and I don’t particularly like some of the things he says but I really do like what he has done for the USA in 4 years.

With all due respect, we can only hope Biden will be a good leader. We can have no confidence that he will be a good leader any more than any other. He has given us cause to watch him like a hawk, but that comes with the territory. A democracy only holds strong only when the people employ constant and rigorous scrutiny and accountability of its elected officials.
I totally agree with you. So, where were those people when we needed rigorous scrutiny and accountability of our elected officials in the past four years? If the job was being done, Trump would have never gotten away with all he did.
We can only move forward. I am optimistic we will regain some of all we lost and, all for nothing more than a has been bully.

The fourth estate would be considered the fourth, informal source of oversight.
Thank you, mom, but I have followed politics and procedures for 50 years. My question was more about the specific people working on these committees, and their moral obligations to the country. Integrity has also gone by the wayside. We can hope those holding offices and chairing committees in the next generation will find the values we seem to have lost.

We did take our lumps for four years. Now the other half takes their turn. That is a true democracy. We will get back to decency, honorable decisions in a grown up way. To interact again with climate control, NATO, and world issues with international leaders will hopefully seem normal once again.
