Tried a super summer salad

I’m no great salad lover. I don’t mind a bit of salad as a garnish to make a proper meal look nice but I really don’t enjoy it that much.

Today, after watching Scary Mary make one of her ‘Super summer salads’ :015: I thought I would have ago at it and who knows? maybe even start to eat more healthily. It wasn’t anything difficult; Cooked asparagus and broad beans (cooled) and served on Little gem lettuce (plus I added some pea shoots.), sliced fresh figs and goats cheese drizzled with a honey & Mustard dressing.

It was actually very nice and we both enjoyed it but that was an hour ago, now I’m feeling hungrier than I did before I ate it. I would kill for an Indian or a deep pan pizza & chips.

We often have salad as a light evening meal. Greek salad is a favourite but it has to be with real Feta cheese made from sheep and goat’s milk not your imitation rubbish like Apetina made from cow’s milk. Alternatively we exchange the Feta for fried Halloumi.

Ah, now fried halloumi I do like especially when coated in honey (not sure how healthy that is with honey poured over it)

Salads are OK for starters but a man needs meat and potatoes to survive …

I tend to agree Omah. :-p

One of the advantages of being a woman - or half a woman is that meat and potatoes aren’t a necessity for survival

Totally agree

I usually have a large bowl of salad in the fridge for snacking on. Spinach leaves, grated carrot, feta cheese cubes, olives, and cherry tomatoes. Sometimes avocado chopped through as well. Its lovely as a side dish to a meal, or on a sandwich with pastrami.

Hope it’s real feta Pixie

Well its Greek? Does that count?

If it’s made in Greece then all I can say is :mini::mini:

Yaaaay! Go me and my feta cheese!

I have some dressed leaves every day as a side salad and usually other salads too  I love salads…

Lunch today, potato salad with dill from the garden,
dressed green salad,
fennel and red onion salad
tomato and basil salad
and cauliflower cheese

sliced fresh figs and goats cheese drizzled with a honey & Mustard dressing.

I’m into Polish Russian salad, tinned sardines, vine tomatoes

and proper bread, the kind of stuff England doesn’t do anymore.

Yum! :019:

Just had a salad for my tea Longdogs…

Ham (lots of ham) Cheese (strong cheddar) beetroot, cucumber, boiled potatoes, celery, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, Iceberg Lettuce, radishes, and two slices of Hovis 50/50 bread.
Followed by a French Fancy and a muller rice…all washed down with a cup of Yorkshire tea…

Mind you, I had a Ginsters Cornish pasty and mashed potatoes with lots of vegetables for me lunch…

Should be able to run six miles off that in the morning…

One day? You ate ALL that in one day?? Wow, no wonder Mrs Fox is giving you fridge messages!

And that’s not counting what I had for breakfast Pixie…

If you want a salad to be substantial add pasta and stir in sundried tomato pesto sauce and a can of tinned tuna. Or tomatoes, avocados and boiled new potatoes should alone keep the hunger at bay for a few hours.

Iceberg or hearts of romaine, cucumber, baby plum tomatoes, avocado chilli oil, lime juice, plus either smoked mackerel or tuna.

I prefer ‘chinese leaves’ to lettuce - crisper and more flavoursome - apart from that - Salad - bring it on! Love it - could live on it!!
