Thomas Cook - how long will it take to get money back?

I read that Hays a Northern firm are taking over the Thomas Cook shops anf hopefully the staff will get their jobs back .

That’s interesting.
One or two TC shops around here

Why is it that benefits such as those quoted above are age-related? Surely the finance needed if unemployed is the same for a person of 24 as they are for a person over 25?

Recently I noticed the difference in pension payments, those born before a certain date received less than those born after that date. Retired people require the same amount to live on whether they are aged 70, 80 or 90.

For those born before April 1951 (so aged over 68):
The full basic State Pension is £129.20 per week

For those born after April 1951 (so aged under 68):
The full new State Pension is £168.60 per week

Even the National Living Wage and the National Minimum Wage (hourly minimum payment) carries an age differential:

£3.90 – Apprentice
£4.35 – Under 18
£6.15 – 18 to 20
£7.70 – 21 to 24
£8.21 – Over 25

Apprentices receiving less I can understand as that would also apply to the wage they are paid, as a trainee. Again though how can a person of 20 be expected to receive less than a person of 21 or 25. There are no age-related discounts on anything required by those in the lower hourly rate group, food, travel, clothing, rent etc., cost the same for all ages.

Can anyone on here answer this because I cannot see any logical reason why this is applied, other than of course to save the government paying out more than they have to?
