This is so wrong

This is so wrong IMO .
Yes she was a teacher but she was only 22 and the boy in question was 18 not exactly a little child .
More importantly the police found no evidence of criminality so why has the DM dragged it all up after the woman has rebuilt her life ?

How on earth

Doesn’t the DM have have more important issues to deal with? Or even more interesting stories?

It’s the gutter press but could be so much more than that given it does sometimes get it right .
Tory backed paper feeding trash to the plebs.

Yes, that’s about the size of it

On the other hand it took six years for this Principal to face justice after abusing children in her care

Teachers have a special responsibility to the children in their charge whether they are 7 or 18. Not having sex with them is one of those responsibilities.

Would you be so forgiving if it was a 30 year old male teacher and an 18 year old girl?

Perhaps not but this wasn’t the case .
There was no evidence that the teacher did anything it could be just a boys boast .
He was 18 an adult male old enough to go to war and kill people .
There was only four years between them it’s not child abuse
The incident was five years ago he’s now a man of 23 yet his name is not plastered over the DM
It does seem that there is a lot of teacher shaming these days.

Not a parallel - you should be asking if we’d be so forgiving if it were a 22 year old male teacher and an 18 year old girl. And actually I think I would. You can hardly call that child abuse. I was 18 when I met my husband, then 23 years old. I don’t think either of my parents considered that to be child abuse, or my boyfriend to be a predatory male.

The only reason it would be deemed ‘wrong’ is because it’s a teacher/pupil relationship, which is always best avoided.

Your husband was not loco parentis and therefore it is a totally different situation. Teachers of what ever sex have special responsibilities for their charges, the age is irrelevant.

A 22 year old woman is not in loco parentis to an 18 year old boy.
An 18 year old boy is a physical adult , able to vote and fight for his country.

She is if she is his teacher.

Sorry but as a teacher, in a position of trust, she overstepped the line.
To me, she behaved in an unprofessional and unethical manner
but then l am very old fashioned in some of my views.

Imagine, if a 22year old doctor did the same with their 18year old patient?

Absolutely Bruce, agree 100%:+1::+1:

Rules is rules and two wrongs do not make a right. When you are in a job of trust as a teacher is ‘Trust’ is the operative word. Would you send your 18 year old daughter to be taught by a 22 year old male teacher who has been screwing other pupils? Even if the teacher in question hasn’t been sleeping with other pupils yet, if she has not been thrown out of the job, there is always that possibility. If you can do it once as they say.

I think what the Daily Mail are doing here is akin to “stalking”
The article is just raking over some old alleged “sex scandal” that happened five years ago and adding in a load of pics of this woman’s scantily clad figure.
It’s all clickbait - grist to the mill of unprincipled media editors.
To my mind the people who publish this stuff are a lot more culpable of malpractice - and a lot more pervy - than the former schoolteacher was because these editors and their staff don’t just do this once to one person - they do it all the time to lots of people, both private citizens and those in the public eye.

For me, the material points in this article were:
The allegations in the bold headline were never proved, yet the DM still made this allegation in Big Bold Text in the main headline.
When you read the article itself, the woman has never been found guilty of any crime and the police did not feel there was any evidence to charge her with any crime.
The internal investigation carried out by the school had already decided the allegations of sexual relations were not proven and the teacher had already accepted some of her other conduct at the students’ graduation party had been inappropriate and had been punished for that by being fired from her job.

That should be the end of the story, as far I’m concerned.
If she has moved away and rebuilt her life and taken up a different career, it is not right that the media should be still hounding her 5 years later - and taking photos of her in the street in this intrusive manner and publishing close up photos of her bottom as she cycles away from the photographers is just grossly unpleasant.

Yes it was probably presumptuous of me to scold her behaviour before knowing the facts.
Unfortunately we live in a society where the media is king, and if it’s reported on the news or in the papers then it must be true. I actually submitted a thread to this effect else where but it seemed to have got mislaid and ignored. Perhaps most people enjoy this kind of gutter press judging by the popularity of the paper. Sex and soft porn have always been a magnet for a story.

I agree that this woman should be allowed to rebuild her life, after all she wasn’t found guilty, some inappropriate behaviour I read

Which was obviously enough to get her sacked.
So on that count ,I believe they had no right whatsoever bringing her past up and photographing her
leave her alone, she has suffered the consequences of her wrong doing, what ever it was.

Well, it seems my first impressions were mistaken too and the Report wasn’t just raked up out of the blue.
Reading further into it in another publication, I realise that the news of this old incident has been resurrected because, although she was fired and has now moved on to a new career in a new country, The General Teaching Council for Scotland have only just concluded the matter of deciding whether to remove Melissa Tweedie from the register of teachers and her removal was announced only this month.

However, the rest of my opinion still stands - there was no need to publish photographs of her in a bikini nor publish photos and details of her new life abroad.

I didn’t read the article as I never do for articles that I feel are ‘gossip’ and wouldn’t want to click on it to encourage the publishers to keep on publishing articles like that.

I would like to thank Boot for doing a summary of the article.

I really do wish people would wake up to what’s going on. It’s the media who run the country not the Government. And whatever political persuasion you are they’ll do it again.

Whether it’s climate change, covid, wokeness, etc it’s them that sets the agenda and they can change their minds and aren’t ever held accountable.

There aren’t any 22 year old doctors ( except for Doogie Howser, M.D. )
Doctors take forever to qualify .

Well said Boot!
