Funny you should say that, Morti. I once gave a broody hen a few duck eggs to hatch for me.
She was happy enough to do the job alright, but the poor hen was frantic when the baby ducklings wanted to swim at a few days old!
Same can happen the other way round, and even more dangerous. Don’t let a duck hatch chicken eggs, because mother duck will expect to take the chicks swimming - and they’d drown. . 
On the whole, I think it’s best to keep the right species together as nature intended.
