He has been here for a month and is an over zealous micro manager.
The place is no longer the harmonious work site it once was.
So I have decided to look for work elsewhere.
I have lodged an application yesterday. I will not delude myself, at 64, the odds of my even getting an interview are very slim.
Should no interviews be forthcoming then I will grit my teeth and do what is required in this job, without enthusiasm.
Sorry to hear that Bretrick, the whole atmosphere of a work environment can change overnight with a change of leadership. Iāve been in the same position during my working life.
I hope you can find something, itās nice to have a change occasionallyā¦
Foxy, thee and me know there is a time to go it alone but, Brets 64 years under the belt could make that quite difficult.
Have you thought about retiring? You only have a year to go to get the state pension anyway, why not live off your super? You have your camera and your hobbies.
I retired at 60 as a self funded retiree and almost immediately wished I had done it earlier, I soon found myself wondering how I ever found time for a job!
I started late with super, plus I blew a lot of it when I was an Alcoholic. It was very easy to withdraw super decades ago.
Currently I have total savings of $200,000. Plus I rent.
I might need a bit more savings before I can comfortably retire.
Thank you. There are jobs I can apply for. I will persevere and see where I end up.
Tinpot Managers come and go, new brooms are easy, even at 64 years old you may see this person out, its hard maintaining workplace bullshite, stick around there, and watch stuff unfold.
Stay a bit longer, things may settle, who knows ā¦
@spitfire @d00d
There is a lot to consider.
Job security being one of them. I could stay here and see out my working life with this company
Or I could take the risk and go elsewhere. Whoās to say another place might be even worse?
I intend to talk to the new guy and have what will hopefully be a meaningful discussion.
Hi, I know its easy to suggest managing your manager - but there are techniques to do this. Check google or youtube stuff on this. Let me honest, mostly it is soul destroying or dignity bashing stuff. Only you can decide if the shame of sucking up is worth the pay back, But the one thing Iāve noted in business, and as a consultant to businesses, is that shameless sucking up works very well. (Mostly for the less talented, so for a talented person like you it should work a dream.)
Here are some phrases Iāve heard been used effectively:
Thanks, that suggestion really made a difference - perhaps I could check in with you before I move onto the next stage. (I already know the best plan.)
Could you help me detail this plan as I am not sure on the best approach for this element? (I know the best approach but you want to tell me what to do.)
It is easy once you sell your soul.
I know how you feel. My original plan was to retire next month because everything would of been paid off and I would have no debt and turn 65. But I paid everything off a few years early.
A coworker told me hold off on my retirement until 1 Oct for 3 weeks extra pay. Ok good idea. Now I hear the contract is going to be renew by the end of August. That is when they reduce the man power to lower the contract costs. No one here has more time here than me. I donāt know if they will keep me for one month and have to pay the 3 weeks pay. Iām deciding if the donāt rehire me in August , I may sue them for age discrimination.
I got 3 properties I can sale if time get hard. And just over $3000 monthly retirement. A little more than you in the bank.
I am nervous about retiring.
Saw a lot of new brooms, the lure of the coffee machine and the masses was too much to resist
How soon will you retire? I would urge you to hang on, atb64 the market is nonexistent.
I have 4 more years until retirement age.
I applied for a position, operating Gantry Crane. Offered me the job. Similar wage, no overtime. So I would be getting less pay.
I am staying where I am for now.

Time gets more precious the older you get Bretrick, If you can manage on less money but more time doing hobbies and leisure activities Iād personally go for that.
Industry takes all your best bits and spits you out at the end, sometimes you end up being too decrepit and feeble to enjoy life after work. Thatās if you make it. I know quite a few people who retired and expired. I took a part time job delivering the post for Royal Mail, I was prepared to take a cut in wages but in the event it didnāt work like that. Itās a long story but I ended up working long hours with plenty of overtime. I enjoyed the work, and it kept me fit, but it was a case of āWhip the willing horseāā¦
Like @Bruce I retired at sixty with a small works pension and some savings. I became eligible for the state pension at 65. Due to my love of nature and walking/running most of my hobbies didnāt cost a lot and I survived. It was the best decision I ever madeā¦
I know our situations are different Bretrick and you must do what you feel is best, but consider thisā¦
Make a fist and plunge it into a bucket of waterā¦
Take it out, and the hole thatās left behind is the amount that industry will miss youā¦
Ark at me getting all philosophicalā¦
I decided why work hard for a company for those in charge earning more than me and doing less. How stupid is that? Suddenly woke up to the fact and did a complete change of direction by going self employed. Already put in enough years to get a works pension but left when it went downhill with privatisation. Then along a new manaager and a complete ānumpty uni, gitā who didnāt have a clue about the job.
Time to get out and go it alone.
Best move ever made, everything put as they say āon the LIneā make or break time. Sold the house- moved to another part of the country - took over a failing business. 7 years later getting established in our own name and starting to see some return on our outlay. 25 years after that retired with a comfort living standard . I have to say a lot was with the help from Sue who kept us from going under.
You did well realspeed, respect mateā¦
Didnāt like that attitude of the managers in the organization I worked for so I walked, 2002, best thing I ever did
You can do anything in the life and will make a living, providing you very good or the best, you will always work
A Youtube guy I watch has a clothing range with a logo on it HWBT, Hard Work Beats Talent, having a bit of talent though is the icing on the cake
Oh no! I sincerely wish you the best on your hunt for a new position, but truly at our age do understand the art of not getting the deal.
Toxic work environments can be such a drag. I just wish you as much peace love and light as possible.
