There is a general lack of respect in society today

My young niece, who was named Teacher of the Year for her county the second year of her teaching, left the field last year after a student punched her in the stomach and the principal returned the child to the classroom the next day with no more consequence than a phone conference with the parents. She is now back in graduate school to become an occupational therapist. It is such a shame that the profession is losing such talent.

I have always been a strong advocate of public education, seeing it as leveling the playing field for all children. The sad reality is that parents who can afford it, are putting their kids in private schools in droves, where administrators do not have their hands tied when it comes to discipline and teachers feel supported. We can all surmise where this will lead us…

Oh heavens, hush my mouth. Sorry, I forgot…! Its only in certain areas, like the larger schemes outside the city, Chilli, during the holidays when the kids are at a loose end. I think it won’t last much longer anyway, because the Scottish Government are winding down the freebies (which aren’t actually free anyway) due to them having to pay the EU back.

No worries Pixie! :grinning:
Just my curiosity and we hope to be up in Glasgow during the summer. I think we’ll use the metro

The metro is the subway…affectionately known as the clockwork orange. Its fine…it runs on a loop going to certain areas, Local trains are great too for getting to and from the little places :steam_locomotive: Buses are generally ok (when they run on time, and don’t have 3 all coming at once, heh!)

Yep, been on the clockwork orange several times previously, dead useful, it’s like a mini London circle line :grinning: :+1:

My ex husband was a bus driver and he used to tell me some right horror stories about kids on his bus.
One route in Perth used to finish beside the shops, the kids hung out there in the evenings and hassled the bus driver and throwing stuff. It ended with the drivers refusing to drive that route after 6pm. As far as I know it’s still like that.

It shows a severe lack of respect to name Scottish towns after the capital of WA

This takes me back to the 70’s and the Nixon era, “the silent majority”, and is a fact, those who disobey are actually a small minority, but because of their blatant actions, and the frequency they commit them, they appear larger in numbers.

Who is there left to respect?
Trump, Biden, Sunak, Starmer, ……Johnson :open_mouth::open_mouth:
There are a few that I do respect, but strangely these are the same ones that the media love to put down.

I was at a bus stop earlier and a wretched teenager got on the bus before me! There’s no respect anymore, he just doesn’t care, on D Day too! Where would these spotty teens be today without us old folk to make Britain great again. I’m thinking of voting for Nigel now!

I’m struggling to equate Farage and his new leadership with you gaining respect and acknowledgement from under 20 year olds. His track record on campaigning is not great, his track record on winning seats is not great and his party will only serve to steal votes from the Tories. Apart from the name of his party, I can’t see how a vote for Farage will gain you any more respect. From anyone of any age. But if it makes you feel better about yourself…
PS when I lived in London it was common for people of all ages, sexes and colours to ignore an existing bus stop queue and push in ahead of others. I disliked that, I have told some to note the queue and not skip in (with expected results) but mostly one just ignores it. And don’t take it personally. Nothing to do with my past or future contributions to society. Maybe that teenagers get ahead at all costs attitude will make him/her a future billionaire.
