How many members have heard of the Uillean Pipes and more to the point have heard them played to good effect?
Unlike the Highland Scottish Pipes that only have 9 playable notes, the arm pumped Irish version has at least two octaves of notes to choose from and of course the three constant drone pipes.
I like playing my Uillean instrument because of the melancholic sound that can be wrung out of the amazing soul provoking music generator and also as my old lungs are shot, I can play away without adding to my distressed breathing, unlike my Scottish pipes that have now sat unplayed for the past 15yrs.
