The Royal Pantomine continues

I’ve been there just for the gardens, never been inside.

They don’t let anyone inside .( except the cleaners ,cooks and all the rest of the staff needed to care for one man and his wife .)

Not really bothered about them. If a newspaper has pages about them, I don’t buy it. If TV news start about them, I switch over.

I think the value of having a royal family is continuity they are constant…can you imagine having elections every 4 years on who would be the next president…all the mud raking TV debates and divisions …and the cost of it all.

Nope I think overall we are best sticking with royalty but we could do away with all the hangers on…Prince Andrew and the spare spring to mind but all the cousins etc…no need for them.

I think that’s one of their main disadvantages .
We have a staid old mind used to deference and privilege instead of someone who has not experienced the world in a protective bubble .
Also people who pay for their upkeep have no choice in selecting them
Succession does not guarantee competency as history shows and an unelected leader is an anachronism in a democracy .

And long may it continue!! …the title that is!!..shakespeare who was full of anachronisms incidentally would have so much fun writing plays with them in them wouldn’t he? and probably make a good pal for Charles!!

For all the criticisms and witicisms and any other schisms - they are in a way as continuous theatrical and moving show of history and grandeur and commonwealth. They do provide a binding thread throughout the world despite being tinged with blood but still in a strange and loving way loved and cherished with colonial history. And they all love the annual feastings!!

Yes it’s a bit like having our live Shakespeare always around to entertain and amuse us and also parody themselves in some amusing ways!!

the yanks rave about them ; the canadians love and adore them and a good smattering of the ozzies and kiwis do also ; plus the rest of most of the South sea isles - it’s a bit like having a shakespearian group travel around the world putting on shows for everyone!!

But they only have them for a few days.Shakespear’s too intelligent anyway.A travelling circus of clowns would be more them.

Perhaps there is reformed royalty and all the rest are dead?? like the ruskies - bet they couldn’t cope with any now? - and other alien states!! - it is/was a part of the past often not the good past but now it’s like a ‘royal show’ that some still enjoy watching as long as they don’t leave us poor and I do believe they pay their way?

There are many examples of presidential families in other countries being even more extravagant and just as long standing / unelected. Has everyone forgotten Imelda Marcos and her shoes?

OGF what has really changed in Russia since the empire?

There are good presidents too and they are elected by the people .

Meanwhile Kate and wills have just hired someone to manage their 60 staff .

They need 60 staff ?
