I was watching a you tube clip about how much of what we throw in the correct bin ends up being recycled in local authority recycling regimes. It turns out that the triangles at the bottom of most plastics have numbers that categorise the material type and only those triangles marked 1 or 2 are worth putting into the recycling bin. Anything 3-7 likely ends up in landfill. There’s no consistency as to whether these numbers are recycled or not.
So it’s milk containers and plastic drinks bottles that are the most successful for recycling as these are usually 1 or 2. Yoghurt pots do not satisfy most recycling requirements. The surprising thing is that food producers are using less recyclable materials, perhaps there’s a reason for that.
