The Belt and Road Inititative was started 13 years ago by the Chinese as a new version of the old Silk Road from Asia to Europe. It has had its ups and downs and hasn’t always been successful but the sleeping dragon is rousing again and looking for new opportunities. You will no doubt be aware of its recent incursion into the sleepy south pacific nations and attempts to start with trade but secretly wanna introduce arms and weaponery?
So finally Snow White and the seven dwarfs in the form of USA and the rest of the G7 members are meeting in Europe and attempting to collect $600 billion to produce their own “belt and road” initiative? I somewhat smaller amount to that used by the Chinese.
However PGII versus Belt and Road sounds refreshing to see the world finally waking up to the other super powers like China and Russia with their highly controlling and war like ideologies? Seconds out and let the discussions begin??
And this is how China reacts when it is kept out of world meetings - there is no clearer example of how the “mind” of their leaders work - they always want to be involved on their own terms and cannot play nicely!!
the future success or failure of HK will be interesting to watch - depending on how long we each have got!!
