Gripping stuff! Sorry, Griping stuff. Actually I loved the rhythm of the drilling. A real foot tapper.
Awesome realspeed…
Thanks for ‘posting’
@realspeed A word of caution there Speedy, those larger flatbits put a lot of strain on a pillar drill’s bearings. Make sure you put a very keen edge on said bit before boring a new hole, or the vibrations would be overly excessive.
LD I did that already. the giveaway is the shavings thrown out. A good indication of the sharpness of the cutting blades. This is a very old bit that can be sharpened again and again not like the modern soft metal ones
I have a similar problem LongDriver when using a flatbit in my pillar drill. It rattles and vibrates like fury…
Most flatbits come with a very long shaft probably for deep boring and to be used in a brace.
Most of the hole drilling I do in my pillar drill is no more than an inch deep, so I cut off the excess shaft tand it improves stability…
That is exactly what my plan of action was and since then I have accumulated many such shorter bits as the cost of a new longer one is not going to break the bank
