The Monaco gp

Nice to see Ferrari on pole although some doubts over le clercs gearbox after he hit the barrier which brought out the red flag, Ferrari have said it’s ok but who knows, should be an interesting race…

Shame about De Clerks penalty in qualifying?
Hamilton was a big let down ?
Norris was driver of the day for me, but the “race” itself was very
disappointing imo as most of the drivers seemed to be just keeping
their distance from each other and weren’t really racing and l don’t
think l saw one genuine overtaking move in the race ??

 Donkeyman!

Disasterous day for Mercedes. Monaco doesn’t suit the big cars, just a procession today.

Perez was driver of the day for me, having broke the track record several times, unfortunately he was unable to keep it until the end once Hamilton spit his dummy out and went in the pit for a late tyre change…

Ferrari should have changed the gearbox and taken a 5 place penalty, bottas had bad luck again, Hamilton changed tyres late on to get a point for fastest lap, it could make a difference later in the season, I’ve a few drivers of the day , Norris, saintz and vettel…

Never been a fan of Monaco, unless it rains or something happens, nigh on impossible to overtake, but as an event, it’s spectacular

Monaco used to be an exciting race to watch ?
Before the advent of aerodynamic wings etc !
Then it was possible to pass , and pass they did, l remember
Graham Hill was usually very good there ?
Strangely, ERS did not seem to help the drivers to pass as l expected
it to?
It was most disappointing that no driver even attempted to
to approach the car in front to challenge for the place ?

Hi

Boring Race, but great fun to see the championship stirred up with Max winning.

A great battle ahead with Mercedes determined to up their game.

Perez did his best to overcome Norris, but even he found it would have been suicide to attempt the pass. Hence my decision to make him driver of the day…I think he has balls!

Yes I agree foxy, once he gets to grip with the red bull he could really challenge max….if he’s allowed to do so

A good decision to give him a seat with red bull Primus…:023:
Felt sorry for Bottas though, I don’t like to see drivers go out on technical issues.

Apparently Toto thinks thinks Valteri caused the f–up at the pit stop
by being six inches out of position in the box ???
WTF!!

Donkeyman!

Drivers and pit crews practice pit stops relentlessly, if the driver doesn’t line up EXACTLY with the wheel guns, that means they have to adjust their positions ever so slightly, this costs time, milliseconds but it all adds up, and incredulous as it sounds, can make the difference as to where you come out on track, critical at Monaco, valteri didn’t line up so the wheel gun stripped the thread and effectively machined a flange so the wheel wouldn’t come off, they still hadn’t got it off as of yesterday…

So the wheels were apparently out of line by about 9 inches if
the video, and reports made to be believed Primus ?
But three wheels were changed with no problem, so what went wrong on the fourth wheel ??
Another thing l noticed was that while the front wheels were past
the box lines , the rear wheels were in line with the box lines ??
This points to the cars wheelbase being longer than the pit
markings ??
Imo the operator of the front right wheel spanner made a mistake
by not aligning the gun/spanner correctly and by pressing the
trigger too soon, and thus the hardened gun socket actually
acted like a router and machined the driving faces completely
off the nut leaving nothing to drive against ??
Bottle can take no blame for this as l doubt any driver ever gets
perfectly in line, the spanner man should be able to accommodate
any misalignment of the car quite easily as proved by the other
three wheels ??
The gun operator should be sanctioned in some way !!

Donkeyman!

No donks, the gun operator is one of the best it’s critical everything is lined up, in this case it wasn’t and it was just a freak happening, merc will probably re design the gun and nut…

[/B]

The nut operating the gun Primus…:021:

:lol::lol:

That sounds a bit like re-designing the wheel to me Primus ??
But and bolts were first invented in the sixteenth century
I believe, but mercedes is still struggling to get it right !
Why don’t they phone up Screwfix !!
Too many spanner men with Ph’ds on that team l think ??

 Donkeyman!

Nah donks the nut that holds on an f1 cars wheel is purposely designed, it is one complete part that locks into the gun , in bottas,s case, it went on misaligned and stripped the thread to a point where it effectively machined itself onto the hub, even using ferraris heavy gear they couldn’t get it off, ( they offered their help after the race) , toto Wolff said no ones ever seen this happen before, they are mystified as to how this occurred, no doubt they’ll get the big hammer on it…

Well, if all else fails ??
But doesn’t that mean that two mistakes were made ??
A/ when fitting the wheel !
AND
B/ When removing it ?
This by TOTO’s top spanner man ???

Donkeyman!

Just one of those things donks, but Mercedes will engineer the hell out of it to make sure it never happens again
