The Magnificent Showman, Freddie Mercury

Is there no song he can’t perform and make so special…

During 1988 on my last ever visit to Sao Paolo tyre plant I was asked by one of the local technicians if it was true that Freddie had AIDS. I said I didn’t know and didn’t know anyone who would know.

Once we had got together, V told me that most Mondays she would go into work singing “Another One Bites The Dust” after another bloke had let her down for some reason or other (probably already had a partner or wife )

Me, I’m sitting here, typing this post, tears streaming down my cheeks because of the sadness I feel over the loss of a great, great entertainer; one I never got to see live and thoroughly regret not having done so.

Which was the song, the video to which had kids playing the roles of Freddie and the rest? I can’t remember for the life of me.

He could really work the audience

Freddie certainly was a great showman - brilliant, energetic performer with a fabulous voice and range - he knew how to hold his audience spellbound.

I couldn’t choose a favourite song or performance - he tried so many different things and I loved all the stuff he did.

I stayed up late recently watching several TV programmes about him, they were being aired back-to-back, showing footage of his concerts and the tribute concert they did for him after he died.
Watching and listening to him performing brought it back to me how brilliant and talented he was and what a crying shame that he died so young - though he will live forever in our memories as that energetic performer at the peak of his talents.
