The Funny Thing About "Averages"?

In light hearted discussions, we often find ourselves talking about the “Average Person”…

For example " the average person has no idea how to cook his dinner", “the average person doesn’t know which side his bread’s buttered on”.

There could be some odd ones worth thinking about?

Examples:- If you put 20 people in a lift with a billionaire, the average person, in there, would be a millionaire!" - until he gets out of the lift!

:crying_cat_face:

Or, if you live in a shed, on a really upmarket row of houses, you might be on an average price of half a million, (when you’re talking to your mates).
:100:

So, the use of statistical terms, like “average” can change everyone’s perception of you?

From now on, I’ll be upgrading myself to Average looking, average intelligence, average prosperity…

Or an average poster of average posts, like this one…!

I, once, went for an interview for a Village Idiot position.

I failed to get the required score!

Pretty much all of the golfers I meet are way above Par!

But they don’t see it as a good thing!

You know the old saying: if you lie on the floor with your head in the oven and your feet in the freezer, your temperature is about average.

A bit like the saying that, “if your nose is running and your feet are smelling - you are upside down!”

It is probably the reason why mean value makes much more sense, because whether the billionaire is in the lift or not the mean won’t change much.

Mind you described as “the mean person” might not do your image much good either.
